SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Director, supervises and/or performs daily maintenance of county park/beaches, and oversees lift station maintenance. Keeps payroll time records, purchases supplies and equipment, and assists in budget preparation.
The employee is required to be on duty before, during, and after natural disasters and emergencies, as directed by the supervisor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Oversees the daily maintenance of an assigned park.
Plans for, oversees, and participates in the maintenance of park grounds, facilities, and equipment at island parks and lift station.
Makes daily assignments to, and reviews the work of, the staff of Parks Workers. Keeps payroll time records for subordinates.
Trains Parks Workers in electrical wiring, plumbing, minor vehicle repair and carpentry. Keeps records of all maintenance work performed and prepares required reports.
Purchases cleaning supplies and equipment.
Oversees maintenance and security of county equipment assigned to park.
Prepares initial budget estimates for park maintenance. May make recommendations regarding hiring, firing, transferring, promoting or disciplining subordinate employees.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Directly supervises parks workers and seasonal employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Nueces County policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities may include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) plus at least three years of experience involving grounds maintenance, facility maintenance, and/or park operations, including at least two years of supervisory responsibility.
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities, may be considered for current Nueces County employees only.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must have an appropriate Texas Driver's License. Any employee who drives a vehicle on official business must have a driving record which meets standards set by the County and the County’s insurance carrier.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of budget preparation and control; park maintenance procedures; and appropriate safety procedures relating to use of equipment ensuring public safety in facility maintenance. Ability to plan and execute a park maintenance program. Ability to supervise, train and motivate employees. Ability to perform arduous duties under adverse conditions. Demonstrated proficiency in both oral and written communication. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other county employees and officials and the general public. Ability to maintain a good driving record and retain a Texas driver's license applicable to job responsibilities. Heavy equipment operator's license is desirable. Knowledge of first aid and ability to weld is desirable.

The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and with explosives and is occasionally exposed to toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of radiation.
The noise level in the work environment is usually loud because of the noise of the beach, heavy equipment and hand & power tools.
