Position Summary
The AMI Technician provides office and field support to the Cooperative's Automated Meter Infrastructure (AMI) system. This position will program, install, test and repair meters and metering systems utilized by NEC. Implement a metering maintenance program which will ensure accurate measurements of power usage with proper records submitted to Member Care. Promote and ensure adherence to all established safety rules and practices. Protect and enhance the reputation and public image of the Cooperative and its staff. Work both with members and with the public in a courteous, friendly and professional manner regarding all activities of NEC.
Primary Job Functions
- Install and exchange single phase meters. Collect GPS data, program coordinates into the meters. Assure meter communication with base stations. Verify meter phasing.
- Provide accurate meter data on schedule to ensure accurate billing records.
- Disconnect meters due to non-payment of electric bills or as requested / required, on or ahead of schedule to minimize loss of revenue.
- Inspect meter sites. Verify self-contained metering, assist with verification of CT metering and primary metering points, meter sockets, and disconnect idle services.
- May analyze AMI meter communication and accuracy by employing radio test equipment and applying advanced critical thinking skills.
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent number of years of education and experience
- Two years of experience working with electric/electronic circuitry, components and diagrams
- Must have the aptitude and willingness to become knowledgeable with AMI
- Must have advanced computer and technical skills
- Must have the aptitude and willingness to become knowledgeable with AMI.
- Must complete the Tech 1 Job Competency/Demonstration form requirements within the first six (6) months of employment and enroll in our continuing education program to meet all requirements.
Preferred Requirements
- Ability to learn to use customer information systems and utility specific work and service order applications.
- High school diploma/GED and two years of experience working with electric/electronic circuitry, components and diagrams, or an equivalent number of years of education and experience.
- Experience with SCADA systems and strong general troubleshooting skills with organized thought processes would be beneficial.
Licenses/Certifications
Must be capable of operating NEC vehicles, have an acceptable driving record and must possess a valid Drivers License at the time of application.
