The Role
The SharePoint Governance Lead serves as a subject matter expert and technical lead in the development, implementation, and enforcement of SharePoint Online governance and compliance strategies. This role is critical in supporting the growth of Microsoft Purview and Azure Compliance and Security service offerings. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data governance, Microsoft Entra ID, and the Microsoft O365 ecosystem. The SharePoint Governance Lead partners closely with internal teams and clients to ensure security, scalability, and regulatory compliance through tailored Microsoft O365 solutions.

What you'll do
- Lead governance, architecture, and lifecycle management services of Microsoft O365 SharePoint Online environments for clients.
- Develop and implement tailored SharePoint governance policies that support data security, privacy, and regulatory compliance.
- Integrate Microsoft Purview compliance tools—such as DLP, sensitivity labels, Insider Risk, and eDiscovery—into SharePoint environments.
- Align access governance for SharePoint and related Microsoft O365 services with Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD) policies and controls.
- Translate business and compliance requirements into practical SharePoint solutions, site collection architectures, and workflows.
- Utilize and configure SharePoint Advanced Management tools to monitor, report, and enforce governance policies, including site lifecycle and access insights.
- Provide tailored recommendations to enhance client information governance and security posture based on Microsoft best practices.
- Collaborate with IT, cybersecurity, and compliance teams to ensure SharePoint environments meet regulatory and operational needs.
- Monitor SharePoint service performance and recommends improvements to support availability, compliance, and user experience.
- Collaborate with service team members and contributes to the development of SharePoint service delivery aligned with best practices and service roadmap.
- Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant IT or cybersecurity experience, including SharePoint Online administration.
- In lieu of a degree, we are open to proven success and a minimum of seven (7) years' experience in cloud identity management in lieu of a degree.
- 5 years of experience in SharePoint Online administration, including architecture, permissions models, metadata/taxonomy planning, and integration with Microsoft Purview and Entra ID.
- Strong experience with data protection and Microsoft Purview compliance tools.
- Experience presenting technical content in a non-technical way to business and executive stakeholders.
- Experience configuring and managing SharePoint Advanced Management tools and governance reporting features, including access reviews, policy alerts, and activity insights to drive alignment with Microsoft 365 governance best practices.
- Proven success working with enterprise clients in regulated industries.
- Experience implementing SharePoint governance models, metadata/taxonomy structures, and access control frameworks.
- Demonstrated experience presenting SharePoint governance models and compliance capabilities to non-technical stakeholders and executive audiences.
- Experience collaborating across cross-functional teams (IT, legal, risk, cybersecurity) to deliver scalable and compliant SharePoint solutions.
- Must be a citizen of the United States.
- Holds at least one of the following certifications: MS-101, SC-100 SC-400, SC-300, SC-900, PL-200, MS-600
- Familiar with Microsoft Syntex and SharePoint Framework (SPFx).
- Experience supporting compliance and GRC initiatives (HIPAA, NIST 800-53, ISO 27001).
- Consulting background or experience delivering Microsoft 365 solutions at scale.
- Experience with Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD).
