Job Summary
The Personal Care Assistant (PCA) plays a vital role in providing compassionate care and support to individuals in various settings, including retirement homes and private residences. The PCA assists clients with daily living activities, ensuring their comfort and safety while promoting their independence. This position requires a dedicated individual who is skilled in dementia care, memory care, and behavior management, as well as being attentive to the unique needs of clients with disabilities.
Duties
- Provide direct support to clients in daily activities such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and toileting.
- Assist with meal preparation and ensure proper nutrition according to dietary needs.
- Monitor and record vital signs as needed, reporting any changes to healthcare professionals.
- Implement behavior management strategies for clients with dementia or other cognitive impairments.
- Support clients in engaging in social activities and maintaining a positive environment.
- Assist with mobility and transportation needs, ensuring safety during transitions.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the living space to promote a healthy environment.
- Collaborate with healthcare teams to develop and follow individualized care plans.
Qualifications
- Experience in personal care or related fields preferred, particularly with dementia care and memory care.
- Knowledge of behavior management techniques for individuals with disabilities is highly desirable.
- Ability to assist clients compassionately while promoting their dignity and independence.
- Strong communication skills to effectively interact with clients, families, and healthcare providers.
- Patience and empathy when working with individuals facing physical or cognitive challenges.
- Basic understanding of vital signs monitoring systems is a plus.
- Certification in CPR/First Aid is advantageous but not mandatory.
