Who is Nulixir?

Nulixir, a nano-biotechnology start-up, is a VC-backed business-to-business (B2B) company that develops, manufactures, and licenses intellectual property (IP) for smart nanocarriers, called nanovesicles, which optimize the performance of functional ingredients in food & beverage products. Nulixir, as the Function HouseTM, is revolutionizing the functional ingredient space by introducing a realm of functionality and shaping the future of intelligent food. This patented technology (70 patents) has applications across multiple verticals in food and beverage (e.g., nootropics, energy stimulants, vitamins, probiotics, protein, etc.).

Founded in 2019, the company brought together a team of CPG leaders, cancer researchers, US attorneys, and nutritionists to overcome long-standing challenges in the Food and Beverage Industry. The firm’s founder has extensive experience in the development of nanocarriers for cancer therapeutics.

In the past-year, Nulixir sales have grown ~8x with strong interest from small, mid-size and many large CPG companies to partner with Nulixir and incorporate the technology in their products. Nulixir boasts an impressive board of senior executives from companies like Pepsi, Danone, McKinsey & Company, Paine Schwartz Partners, etc. The company currently has 30 employees with a stellar executive team who come from food B2B companies such as ADM, Givaudan, Kerry, and ex-MBB consultants.

Position Overview :

Nulixir is looking for a highly qualified and experienced professional to lead Nulixir’s product applications. You will partner closely with Research and Development, Sales, Procurement, and, most importantly, directly with customers to build market winning food and beverage products and concepts utilizing Nulixir’s technology.

You should be a highly experienced product development professional in food and beverage B2B (ingredients, flavors, etc.), and / or food & beverage CPG product development. The ideal candidate is intellectually curious, resourcefully creative, metrics driven, detail oriented, customer focused, and has a background in beverage applications. The Application Scientist will report to the Chief Commercial Officer (CCO).

Position Location :

This position will be IN PERSON at our HQ facilities located in the Austin, TX Metropolitan Area

In this critically important role, you will be responsible for :

A : Lead finished product development and applications at Nulixir

Be the resident expert in finished good applications, communicating to the Research and Development team opportunities and challenges associated with incorporating Nulixir’s core technology into various product formats
Excel in product formulation : Ingredient functionality and interactions with a very good understanding of Design of experiments.
Proactively identify market pain points associated with our strategic products and platforms

B : Identify and incorporate best practices for applications lab

Build overall applications lab with required ingredients, equipment, and personnel

Establish standard operating procedures (SOPs) and application sheets for various product applications that can be shared across teams

Identify and implement appropriate software systems to efficiently manage recipes and processing parameters

Define best practices associated with sensory sample evaluations; enable broader teams to effectively contribute to evaluations

Partners with production and quality department to complete scale-up trials and support QA / QC with trouble shooting when necessary.

C : Be an extension of Sales

Drive “customer first” mentality by identifying and communicating clear customer needs

Provide technical services to customers as needed (plant trials, troubleshooting, and training) and assist customers by participating in in-house visits, answering technical questions and conducting presentations / seminars as needed

Demonstrates an understanding of customers, product categories, and consumer preferences

Drive technical-to-technical relationships with customers to ensure proof of concept execution

Drive new win revenue through timely project execution

Relevant Job Experiences, Skills, and Key requirements for this role :

Food science or related technical (biology, chemistry) bachelor's degree with a minimum of 8-10 years of experience in B2B food & beverage ingredients with 5 years in an applications role

Strategic mindset with ability to tactically execute with a hands-on approach

Customer oriented

Experience with broad non-alcoholic beverage applications; experience in food, dietary supplements, nutraceuticals, and confections also a positive

Technical background with preference for experience with emulsions, encapsulation, or other colloid based systems

Strong communication and interpersonal skills with internal stakeholders and customers

Experience with rapidly growing, fast paced businesses and / or start-up experience; need to have a good understanding of start-up culture and mentality

Collaborative work style with colleagues across functions, partners, and external support resources to analyze and draw actionable conclusions that drive profitable revenue

Strong research, and data analysis skills with ability to connect the dots, draw insights and make recommendations.

Self-motivated, organized, and resilient – with ability to define goals, prioritize work plans and overcome obstacles.

Experience in managing proprietary and confidential product portfolios with utmost discretion

Strong verbal and written communication and reporting skills

Ability to find creative solutions to complex problems

Pay Range :

110K-$130K plus bonus

Stock Options (after initial employment period)

Salary : $110,000 - $130,000
