We are currently seeking an Import Customs Specialist to join our Account Services team to be responsible for the full range of import operations, customer service, and administrative deliverables.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Compliance and Documentation Deliverables
- Stay up to date on changes in tariff codes, HTS codes, and other customs regulations and classifications with the support of the Company’s Compliance team.
- Prepare and submit accurate import documentation to customs.
- Ensure all imported goods adhere to customs regulations.
- Maintain records for accounting purposes in accordance with company procedures, including checking all invoices and shipping manifests for conformity to tariff and Customs regulations.
- Maintain detailed records of Import and client transactions.
- Document imported orders in SAP.
Internal Stakeholder Deliverables
- Provide guidance to internal stakeholders on customs compliance, including tracking vessels and scheduled arrivals.
- Generate reports and provide clients with regular updates on all import activity.
- Develop an understanding of all departmental operational functions i.e. billing, tracking, transportation, entry writing, operational systems, etc.
- Providing internal support to import individuals, teams, or colleagues as assigned.
Administration & Facilitation Deliverables
- Develop and maintain strong business relationships with both customers and suppliers.
- Work with customs timely to resolve issues or delays in the process.
- Accurately classify and value imported goods, minimize duty, and tax liabilities.
- Secure ocean freight approvals, and work with overseas agents.
- Conduct timely follow-up of priority orders and delivery appointments.
- Coordinate and oversee the import process: file entries, track shipments, and manage the entry process.
- Work with customs to resolve issues or delays in the process.
- Monitor and manage import-related costs and provide clients with cost-effective import solutions.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for all assigned clients and maintain strong client relationships.
- Update Customer Price List and Material Master in SAP.
- Review and audit payables to ensure accuracy as they relate to shipments.

Requirements and Qualifications
Experience, Knowledge & Education
- Three (3) to five (5) years’ experience in the role of Import Customs Specialist or similar role.
- Experience in Customs Brokerage and Import Management required.
- Bachelor’s degree in business or related field.
- Certified Customs Specialist (CCS) a plus
- Certified Import/Export Specialist (CIES) a plus
- ACE portal knowledge is desired
Demonstrated strength in:
- Tariff codes, customs regulations, and compliance.
- Air, ocean, and ground transportation
- Managing broker, forwarder, and carrier relationships.
- SOPs, operational policies, and procedures.
