The instructional coach supports a cohort of Teachers across all subject areas. The instructional coach focuses on individual and group professional development that expands and refines the understanding of researched-based effective instruction aligned with the school’s unique mission and vision. The instructional coach provides personalized support that is based on the goals and identified needs of individual Teachers in alignment with the overall instructional practices within the Nurses Middle College Nashville (NursesMC™- Nashville) community. The instructional coach’s primary role is to work with Teachers to support best practices in using data, provide analysis of school-wide trends in instruction, lead testing, support academic special projects, and make recommendations to the Director of Teaching and Learning about potential next steps to address areas of need.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Instructional Excellence:
- Serves as an advisor to teachers and administrators on best instructional practices to maximize student success.
- Attends and contributes to Instructional Leadership Team meetings.
- Provides input on school-wide policies and initiatives, including schedules and calendars.
- Collaborates with the Director of Teaching and Learning and the Instructional Leadership Team to develop policies and structures that improve instruction and student support.
- Guides staff in implementing the NursesMC educational program, emphasizing holistic wellness, student success, and preparation for healthcare careers.
- Monitors and analyzes student achievement data to identify areas needing support and intervention.
- Performs classroom instruction and management duties as the Teacher of Record in a teacher’s absence.
- Engage in weekly data-driven collaboration with teachers to refine instructional strategies, implement targeted re-teaching methods, and individualize learning pathways to ensure all students meet NursesMC-Nashville’s high academic and professional standards.
- Coaching:
- Observes instructional delivery and provides feedback to support teacher development.
- Supports teachers in internalizing the NursesMC curriculum, including pacing guides, standard alignment maps, and instructional planning.
- Ensures curriculum implementation adheres to pacing, grade-level expectations, and state standards.
- Collaborates with instructional staff (e.g., Director of Teaching and Learning, academic chairs, grade-level leaders) to share and implement best practices.
- Serves as a department leader, communicating instructional expectations and ensuring accountability.
- Meets regularly with teachers individually and as a department to discuss instructional goals and strategies.
- Supports the onboarding of new teachers, providing guidance on scheduling, curriculum development, inventory management, and grading.
- Models evidence-based instructional strategies and nursing integration when requested.
- Assists with classroom engagement and management strategies.
- Monitors intervention programs and student progress by meeting with teachers.
- Uses classroom walkthroughs, planning materials and data to tailor coaching and recommend supports to the Director of Teaching and Learning as needed.
- Professional Collaboration and Development

- Actively engage in school initiatives, professional learning, and collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders, embracing feedback and sharing insights to support continuous growth and community improvement.
- Communication and Family Engagement
- Build community by partnering with families on their student’s academic success and personal development.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including grades, attendance, behavior, and communication logs with students and families, to ensure compliance with school policies.
- Additional Responsibilities
- Assessments:
- Oversees the administration of standardized assessments, including STAR Assessments, End-of-Course (EOC) Exams, and ACT testing.
- Ensures compliance with testing protocols and communicates schedules to staff and students.
- Collaborate with teachers to analyze formative and summative assessment data to track student progress, assess mastery of content, and drive evidence-based instructional decisions.
- Class Scheduling:
- Develops and manages class schedules for the academic year.
- Adjusts schedules as needed for events such as school cancellations, testing periods, or other disruptions.
- Special Projects:
- Assists with academic special projects as directed.
- Teacher Supply Ordering and Stocking:
- Coordinates classroom supply ordering to ensure teachers have the materials they need.
- Maintains inventory and manages supply distribution effectively.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Education or a related field (required).
- Three years of teaching experience, preferably in an urban or charter school setting.
- Proficiency in technology, including PowerSchool, Google Apps.
Licensure Requirements (Tennessee Department of Education):
Candidates must meet one of the following criteria:
- Have an active Tennessee teaching license with an endorsement, OR
- Instructional Leader License (ILL)
