RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Instructional Excellence:
- Designs and employs differentiated instruction to accommodate Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), 504 Plans, and Individual Learning Plans (ILPs), ensuring compliance with federal, state, and district Special Education and Multilingual Learner (MLL) regulations and collaborate with student support teams to ensure all students achieve success.
- Collaborates with general education teachers to adapt and differentiate lesson plans, curricular materials, and supplementary resources aligned with state standards and the NursesMC™ mission to meet individual student goals.
- Utilizes assessment data to guide and adjust instruction, interventions, and instructional pacing for optimal student growth.
- Administers and interprets state-required assessments (e.g., ACCESS, academic achievement tests) within mandated timeframes, providing actionable insights to students, families, and staff.
- Incorporates a variety of instructional technologies to enhance student engagement and technological literacy.
- MLL Coordination:
- Provides critical guidance to general education teachers and staff to ensure compliance with IEPs and to meet the needs of students with special needs.
- Develops and executes processes for entering and exiting students into Special Education and MLL services.
- Designs and supports the RTI process for both behavior and academics in collaboration with necessary school staff.
- Meets with general education teachers to review IEPs, answer questions, and provide strategies and support to effectively serve students.
- Assists in the development and implementation of evidence-based literacy and numeracy initiatives for MLLs and students with disabilities.
- Supports teacher development by modeling Structured English Immersion (SEI) strategies, instructional approaches, and evidence-based practices through coaching and professional development.
- Student Support and Classroom Environment:
- Collaborate with the Student Support Team, Grade Level MTSS teams, and families to address students’ educational, health, and emotional needs.
- Monitor and adjust student interventions and care plans to ensure they are effective and meet individual needs.
- Create a respectful and supportive classroom environment that fosters positive relationships among students and promotes collaboration.
- Establish a culture of learning with high expectations for academic and professional growth, supported by verbal and nonverbal encouragement.
- Maintain classroom routines and procedures to optimize learning time and provide a clean, organized, and distraction-free environment.
- Uphold the school’s high standards for student behavior and professionalism.
- Professional Collaboration and Development
- Consistently model the NursesMC™-Nashville Pillars of Nursing: character, scholarship, compassion and empathy, and professionalism in all interactions with students, families, and staff.
- Collaborates with the Director of Teaching and Learning to analyze data, develop instructional plans, and enhance MLL programming.
- Attends and contributes to Academic Support Team meetings, MTSS meetings, and departmental PLC meetings.
- Actively engage in school initiatives, professional learning, and collaboration with colleagues and stakeholders, embracing feedback and sharing insights to support continuous growth and community improvement.
- Attends state and local meetings related to Special Education and MLL services, staying informed of regulation changes and ensuring compliance.
- Communication and Family Engagement
- Build community by partnering with families on their student’s academic success and personal development.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records, including IEPs, 504 Plans, grades, attendance, behavior reports, and communication logs with students and families, to ensure compliance with federal, state, and school policies.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education or a related field (required).
- Three years of teaching English Learners, preferably in an urban or charter school setting.
- Proficiency in technology, including PowerSchool, Google Apps.
Licensure Requirements (Tennessee Department of Education):
Candidates must meet one of the following criteria:
- Have an active Tennessee teaching license with an endorsement in English as a Second Language (ESL) K-12 (preferred), OR
- Actively enrolled in a TDOE-approved Job-Embedded Program

- Proof of U.S. citizenship, residency or work visa
