Nuclear Medicine Technologist Job Description
A Nuclear Medicine Technologist administers radiopharmaceuticals or radiation intravenously to detect or treat diseases, using radioisotope equipment.
They administer medical substances for imaging or other procedures, perform screening procedures for diagnostic interpretation, and coordinate patient flow while maintaining procedure quality control.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare, administer, and measure radioactive isotopes in therapeutic, diagnostic, and tracer studies using various radioisotope equipment.
- Prepare stock solutions of radioactive materials and calculate doses to be administered by radiologists.
- Subject patients to radiation and execute blood volume, red cell survival, and fat absorption studies following standard laboratory techniques.
- Administer intravenous injections in accordance with established procedures.
- Perform screening procedures for diagnostic interpretation.
- Document all pertinent information regarding radioactive materials and surveys in accordance with departmental procedures.
- Obtain pertinent patient information and disseminate subsequent patient preparation instructions to patient care areas.
- Elevate questions, problems, and significant challenges to more senior staff for direction or subject matter expertise.
Required Qualifications:
- Diploma/certificate from an accredited school of Nuclear Medicine.
- Registered by the American Registry of Radiological Technologist (ARRT) in Nuclear Medicine OR Certified by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB) as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist.
- Licensed technologist in the appropriate state, if applicable.
- Vaccinated for COVID-19 based on local, state, and/or federal law or regulations (unless a medical or religious exemption is approved).
- Vaccinated for Influenza, seasonal.
