What are the responsibilities and job description for the Housing Navigator position at Nurturing Care?
Responsibilities:
- Assist Program Manager with the daily operations of the housing program.
- Ensure compliance with Section 8 and Fair Housing regulations.
- Conduct members' housing assessments and interviews to determine eligibility for housing assistance.
-Developing a realistic and financially sustainable individualized housing support plan based upon the housing assessment that addresses identified barriers, includes short- and long-term measurable goals for each issue, establishes the member’s approach to meeting the goal, and identifies when other providers or services, both reimbursed and not reimbursed by Medi-Cal, may be required to meet the goal.
- Through Housing Tenancy and Sustaining Services, provide crisis management and intervention services to residents in need and act as a liaison between members and property management companies
- Collaborate with community organizations to provide supportive services to residents.
- Support members with locating housing options in their area, assistance with completing rental applications and securing necessary documentation.
- Assist in securing housing, including the completion of housing applications and securing required documentation (e.g., Social Security card, birth certificate, prior rental history).
- Assist members with obtaining Housing Deposits as needed & deliver Housing Deposit funds to property managers throughout Northern California as needed. (mileage reimbursed).
- Conduct regular inspections and walk-throughs of properties to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
-Assist with benefits advocacy, including assistance with obtaining identification and documentation for SSI eligibility and supporting the SSI application process.
-Identify and secure available resources to assist with subsidizing rent (such as HUD’s Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8), or state and local assistance programs) and matching available rental subsidy resources to Members.
-Assisting with requests for reasonable accommodation, if necessary.
- Through Housing Tenancy and Sustaining Services, provide case management, coaching and intervention services to residents in need and act as a liaison between members and property management companies
Skills:
-Housing experience required
- In-depth knowledge of Section 8 and Fair Housing regulations
- Strong crisis management skills and ability to handle emergency situations
- Experience in motivational interviewing, social work, or addiction counseling is a plus
- Excellent negotiation skills to resolve conflicts between tenants or with external parties
- Landlord education and engagement
-HMIS experience (preferred)
Spanish Speaker Preferred
