The Marine Biology and Ecology Laboratory (MBEL) at the NUS Tropical Marine Science Institute seeks two highly motivated postdoctoral candidates for the position of Research Fellow in support of a research project entitled ‘The 2025 Southeast Asian Deep Sea Biodiversity Expedition’ led by NUS. This 3-year project will collect and examine deep-sea organisms inhabiting seamounts located in international waters of the Indian Ocean. Studies on the taxonomy, biology, ecology and distribution of planktonic and benthic deep-sea microbes, invertebrates and other animals will be made over the course of the project.
Key responsibilities
Applicants should possess a PhD in invertebrate zoology or marine biology with experience in field research sampling, use of imaging tools, and molecular techniques. Data analysis and people management skills are highly desirable. Active involvement in previous marine research expeditions is an advantage but not essential.

Key responsibilities
- Planning and coordinating personnel, sampling equipment, and research activity schedules prior to and during the deep-sea expedition;
- Developing taxonomic expertise in one or more groups of marine eukaryotes/metazoans relevant to deep-sea ecosystems;
- Conceiving and answering research questions leading to impactful reports and publications through leadership and collaboration.
