The role:

The Quality Assurance & Sanitation Manager, is a key member of the facility's Food Safety & Quality Assurance Department. This role is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing sanitation and quality assurance programs at the facility level. They lead a team of associates and collaborate with cross-functional teams to achieve consistent production of wholesome, high-quality products.

What you'll do:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive sanitation programs compliant with FDA regulations and other relevant standards
  • Conduct regular sanitation and food safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify and address potential issues
  • Ensure all sanitation procedures are effectively executed and documented
  • Investigate FSQA and sanitation-related incidents, perform root cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions and preventive measures
  • Monitor verification and validation of the sanitation process, including swabbing (ATP, allergen, environmental microbiology), hygienic zoning, sanitary design, construction/major maintenance, equipment installation, allergen control program, etc.
  • Collaborate with FSQA and Operations teams to ensure an integrated approach to sanitation and product quality
  • Coordinate and deliver sanitation and FSQA training programs for employees, contractors and promote a culture of cleanliness and responsibility
  • Oversee Integrated Pest Management Programs for the manufacturing facility and associated warehouses
  • Monitor and stay current on sanitation regulations, GFSI and industry best practices, contributing insights to maintain compliance and high standards
  • Track and analyze sanitation key performance indicators (KPI), using data to recommend and implement strategies that enhance cleanliness, good manufacturing practices (GMP) and product safety
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on plant sanitation, good manufacturing practices (GMP), quality/food safety systems, and procedures
  • Actively support food safety culture initiatives
  • Create standard operating procedures (SOPs), sanitation standard operating procedures (SSOPs) and work instructions 
  • Ensure conformance to all applicable food safety and quality standards (e.g., FDA FSMA, State, SQF, HACCP, GFSI, Kosher, Organic, Gluten-Free, etc.)
  • Coordinate Food Defense Team activities and has a shared responsibility for the development, implementation, and maintenance of the Food Defense Plan
  • Promote and enforce safety programs and policies to prevent workplace injuries and illnesses
  • Serve as a backup to Quality Control and Process Improvement Manager

What you’ll bring:

  • Bachelor's degree required in food science, engineering or related discipline 
  • Bilingual - Spanish is strongly preferred
  • Experience working in a food manufacturing facility or related industry
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience within the FSQA/Operations/Sanitation space
  • Experience with FSQA audit compliance and related audit requirements
  • Experience with FSMA, GMP, SQF, HACCP, Allergen, Organic, Gluten-Free, Kosher, Halal, Non-GMO verified programs highly preferred
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws, for quality and safety of food
  • Exceptional organization skills. Works with precision
  • Excellent computer skills. Ability to use spreadsheets, email, and other applications
  • Strong ability to handle complexity and judgment in order to quickly solve problems and make judicious decisions regarding product quality and safety
  • Strong ability to work closely in a team-based environment
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including weekends, Holidays and overtime as needed
