The Summer Program consists of three two-week sessions.
Session one: July 7 - 18, 2025
Session two: July 21 - August 1, 2025
Session three: August 4 - 15, 2025
We will have a three-day training period for coaches from July 1-3, 2025.
JOB DESCRIPTION
The NuVu Summer Coach position is a temporary, independent contractor position. NuVu summer coaches have interests in design, technology, and education. Coaches are responsible for envisioning and teaching studios where they brainstorm, design, and create with the students. The coach will teach for either 1, 2, or 3 sessions of the summer program in their field of expertise.
NuVu Coaches come from a range of backgrounds and bring a diversity of expertise. Past NuVu Coaches have included PhD students at MIT and Harvard, entrepreneurs who have their own companies, artists who work around the world, professionals developing innovative products in various fields, architecture and engineering graduate students, industrial designers, filmmakers, and video game designers.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Bring unique expertise in specific areas to broaden students’ exposure to the arts, technology science, and other fields of study
- Teach a 2-week studio on a topic that fits your expertise
- Teach fundamental design and technical skills related to your expertise
- Work with NuVuX curriculum and adapt and/or develop new content as needed which may include preparing lectures, presentations, activities, outings and discussions
- Give critical feedback to students about their ideas, prototypes, and design process, while allowing and empowering students to make decisions on their own
- Guide students in developing and realizing projects of varying degrees of complexity
- Support student teams in designing and building prototypes of their projects.
- Be on site from 8:30am - 4:30pm each day
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS FOR ALL COACHES
- A clear understanding of the design & making process: brainstorming, ideating, and prototyping.
- Experience in giving constructive feedback to students on their ideas, prototypes, and design process for their projects
- Have at least 1 year of design teaching experience
- Recommended to have experience with teaching and managing a young age group (11-13, and 14-18)
- Current undergraduate, graduate or PhD student, professional, entrepreneur, technologist, engineer, roboticist, architect, designer or some combination of these
- Expert mentor
We are looking for individuals who hold specialized expertise in any of the following areas to teach either one, two, or three sessions:
SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS PER EXPERTISE
Design Coach:
- Ability to teach fundamental technical skills
- 2D/3D digital and physical fabrication
- Storytelling and narrative design
- Photo editing
- Project documentation
Robotics Coach:
- Ability to teach fundamental technical skills
- 2D/3D digital and physical fabrication
- Electronics, arduino, and sensors & actuators
Game Design Coach:
- Ability to teach fundamental technical skills
- 2D/3D digital and physical fabrication
- Game conception and design
Augmented Reality (AR) Coach:
- Ability to teach fundamental technical skills
- 3D Modeling (Blender or Magicavoxel)
- Experience with AR software (Meta Spark, Snap Lens, or Unity)
- 2D/3D animation and video editing
Art Coach:
- Ability to teach fundamental technical skills
- 2D/3D digital and physical fabrication
- Storytelling and narrative design
- Digital and analog artistic skills
- A plus if has experience with biomaterials
- A plus if has experience with animation (stop motion or other)
App Design Coach:
- Ability to teach fundamental technical skills
- 2D/3D digital and physical fabrication
- Basic coding skills (python)
- App design software (thunkable, flutterflow)
BENEFITS:
- Pay depending on experience ranging from $25.00 - $42.50 an hour
- Paid for a three day training period, July 1-3. Coaches must be available to attend this training period.
