Job Summary :
Ethos Veterinary Health is seeking a Director, Construction & Design to manage the development of our growing specialty hospital and emergency portfolio. In this role, you will serve as the team leader for the department's design and construction group, and also oversee key projects and divisional assignments. The dynamic portfolio of projects are highly customized and are led in partnership with group and site leadership. This requires a mix of accommodating nuances in a client-focused manner, with the ability to influence stakeholders to meet schedule and cost expectations.
This highly-visible position will lead the approval and implementation process, oversee the team of designers and construction managers, and manage the development process from start to finish. This role will attend or appoint those to attend due diligence meetings at the onset of projects and real estate opportunities. This role will also oversee high-profile projects (high risk, high cost, and highly visible). The role will require 25-50% travel within the US and Canada and the position can be remotely located in the United States.
What You'll Do :
- From inception to completion, determine Hospital needs with Division Leadership, manage the planning, budgeting, permitting and construction for veterinary projects as well as services provided by outside architects, engineers and contractors
- This role will attend or appoint those to attend due diligence meetings at the onset of projects and real estate opportunities
- Manage high-level discussions with division leadership for approvals, risks, and updates
- Oversee prototyping, standards, and vendor relationships and partnerships
- Manage workload reporting with the construction coordinator and validate workload data is updated frequently and timely
- Manage the team of internal designers, construction managers, and the coordinator
- Support the design manager with scope creation and constructability feedback
- Attend due diligence and discovery meetings at job sites prior to leasing and / or purchasing real estate. Advise on cost drivers and risks
- Work with Division and Hospital Leadership to analyze needs for a project whether a minor renovation or facility refresh to creating an addition or new facility
- Prepare and communicate information and budgets to assist Division Leadership with the approval of CapEx funds for a project
- Track and create performance reporting tools for CapEx projects using key metrics and evaluation performance indicators
- Assist stakeholders to develop equipment needs, budgets and engage with the Procurement Department for the purchase of equipment
- Partner with real estate and legal on lease terms and building / site delivery conditions
- Oversee entitlement, civil approvals, use changes, easement updates, utility connections and scopes of work, and create utility accounts
- Work to identify cost saving opportunities and process improvements within a business line and work with the procurement team to streamline purchasing
- Own projects from conception to close-out, drive punch resolution, socialize and implement change orders
- Ensure the team is properly developing phasing plans for remodels and expansions at the onset of projects, and partner with GCs to execute
- Update project workspaces in SmartSheet, maintain project cost forecasts, and update workload report on a weekly basis
- Manage project cost forecasts
- Oversee procurement process
- Oversee group leadership portfolios and assorted internal stakeholder meetings
- Schedule and supervise project OAC calls after design handoff (for assigned projects)
- Assorted supportive assignments and nuanced tasks as needed to support the workload of the department

The base salary range for this full-time position is $180,000-$200,000. Our salary ranges are primarily determined by role, level, and location. The range provided for each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target salaries for the position across all US locations.
