Join the NVFS Family: We are looking to hire Case Aides to join the NVFS Community Housing team! As the Case Aide, you will be a crucial member of the Housing Case Management team who will work with both individuals and families residing in scattered-site housing throughout Fairfax County. As the Case Aide, you will provide safe and efficient transportation of clients to and from various destinations such as doctor’s appointments, food banks, court appointments, pharmacies, and other community events and activities.

As the Case Aide, you will work with vulnerable clients who have a significant history of homelessness trauma. As the Case Aide, you will be responsible for establishing and facilitating a trusting relationship with the program clients to expedite use of services along the Continuum of Care.

Your Future Team: The NVFS Community Housing programs provide direct assistance and supportive services to support safe and stable housing for eligible households in several jurisdictions across Northern Virginia. These programs work in partnership with other nonprofit organizations, Community Service Boards and County Housing and Community Development programs. Community Housing uses the Housing First approach in working with all clients. Community Housing Case Managers serve community-based clients throughout the Northern Virginia region.

This position has a minimum starting salary of low to mid 40s.

In this role, you will: 

• Develop professional relationship with clients by engaging and building rapport with them.
• Provide orientation to public transportation and other neighborhood amenities.
• Arrange and/or provide transportation for client(s) to physician, social service, outpatient treatment appointments, and/or to community resources (i.e. grocery store, pharmacy, and clothing bank) as needed.
• Provide emergency intervention in response to hostile situations and crises and follow protocol to address emergencies
• Work collaboratively with the Case Managers to connect clients to community resources and support their short- and long-term goals.
• Accompany Case Managers to home visits as needed.
• Assist Affordable Housing Specialist with the moving process for clients to include securing housing placement and coordination of move-in process.
• Conduct outreach and establish network of community resources and services.
• Make referrals to other services as needed and work with other community providers to provide collaborative services to clients.
• Conduct and document home visits to document progress and ensure that clients continue to meet program guidelines and eligibility, as well as enter notes within the appropriate software.
• Participate in regular supervision with supervisor by providing regular updates.
• Maintain client files in accordance with program requirements and NVFS guidelines and assist Case Managers to prepare client files for audits.
• Maintain current level of knowledge on program software and other information on housing assistance programs.
• Comply with the Standards and Ethics for Housing Counseling.

Your Background:  We understand that you may obtain skills through a variety of professional, personal, educational, and volunteer experiences.

• At least 1-year social services experience preferred, ideally with homeless, mental health, and/or substance abuse populations.

• Degree in the human services field a plus with some knowledge of working with and supporting individuals in crisis.
• Familiarity with local area and community resources.
• Demonstrated ability to build rapport and develop nurturing relationships with a diverse client base and landlords.
• Oral and written fluency in English; Spanish language fluency preferred. Additional language skills always welcome.
• Digital and technical proficiency, including working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
• Must be able to demonstrate and live the organizational values of Communication, Integrity, Respect, Collaboration, and Accountability.

Additional Requirements:

• Successful completion of background checks required upon hire
• Must clear Motor Vehicle Record check, have a valid U.S. driver’s license and own transportation in order
  to transport clients
• Must have reliable transportation to visit properties and community locations on a frequent basis
• May be called upon to work beyond normal working hours
