This position is primarily responsible for providing planned and highly skilled nursing care under the supervision of a RN. This position is also responsible for providing continuous patient surveillance and ensuring the delivery of an exceptional patient experience.

- Perform pre-admission phone calls to patients to obtain medical history.
- Set up patient bays with required supplies and ensure equipment and monitors are clean, safe, and functional. Restock as needed.
- Ensure all documentation is present in the patient record prior to physician review and procedure.
- Admit patients to the pre-operative unit, obtain vital signs, perform medication reconciliation, perform pre and post operative teaching, start IV, and chart all interventions in the patient medical record.
- Review patient history, medications, operative consent, and physician orders.
- Administer medications (except IV medications) as ordered by the physician.
- Complete safe surgery checklist for pre-op area
- May assist in the set up and turnover of operating rooms and procedure rooms.
- May assist in patient transport to/from the OR and patient positioning.
- May serve as a scrub tech or GI/Endo tech if appropriately qualified by state law but may not serve as circulating nurse.
- Receive patient in post-op area who have undergone sedation procedures only. Obtain report from Operating room RN and Anesthesia staff.
- Obtain vital signs, provide po fluids/snacks as tolerated, perform/reinforce post-operative teaching, and provide patient with written post-op instructions, including medication reconciliation. Chart all interventions in the patient medical record.
- If IV certified, may discontinue IV.
- Provide report to RN.
- Once discharged by RN, assist patient with dressing and transfer to wheelchair.
- Take patient by wheelchair to vehicle of caregiver.
- Complete safe surgery checklist for post-op area.
- Housekeeping - clean patient bays, stretchers, medical equipment, etc.
- Assist in inventory of supplies.
- Receive and transcribe orders.
- Witness consents as needed.
- Assist in medication counts. May also assist in receiving shipments.
- Serve as member of committees such as infection control and quality.
- Clerical duties may include - entering information from the chart into the computer system. Compiling charts, auditing charts, filing charts.
- Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) licensure in the state of practice required upon start date.
- Basic Life Support (BLS OR HS-BLS OR RQIBLS) Health Care Provider certification Required
- 2 years of experience in an outpatient setting preferred.
- IV certification required
