What are the responsibilities and job description for the Materials Planner position at NVR Inc?
The Materials Planner is responsible for ensuring that the manufacturing plant has the proper materials available in a timely manner to meet production schedules. This includes purchasing materials within contractual lead-times and minimum order quantities from designated suppliers. This position is also responsible for minimizing cost and maximizing production efficiencies and quality of service, through efficient purchasing practices, material usage decision-making, inventory turns, and cross-plant coordination.
This role is located in our Thurmont, MD plant.
Primary Responsibilities:
Determine optimal ordering and inventory balances for the plant by factoring in demand, plant lead, usage, storage, cost, supplier lead-time, minimum order quantities, service levels and opportunity for obsolescence.
Responsible for ordering materials, for routine & complex accounts, using approved vendors, in an efficient manner with emphasis on timeliness, quality, customer service, and cost. Ensure materials are delivered and received on time, to assigned plant location(s), to meet production schedules.
Interface with plant team members, Procurement, accounts payable, customer service, quality, and suppliers to resolve issues or adjust to schedule changes or supply disruptions, in a timely manner.
Act as subject matter expert on material status, availability, quality, and cost. Manage communication and interactions with the shop floor and make decisions on material substitutions during supply chain disruptions.
Manage shortages, damages and returns, while monitoring and driving miscellaneous order turnaround, to ensure a high level of customer service.
Coordinate vendor performance and product quality feedback with the corporate Procurement team to build, maintain and manage supplier relationships and ensure good communication.
Drive improved inventory record accuracy through understanding and use of Material Requirements Planning (MRP) systems and make manual adjustments when needed.
Assist with the execution of product transitions/changes or materials improvement projects. Cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with the suppliers, internal stakeholders, and senior leadership.
Support semiannual plant-wide physical inventory, through reconciliations, directing inventory teams, fielding materials questions, and gathering tags.
Qualifications
3 years of experience in Inventory Control, Purchasing or Administration.
Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Strong problem analysis, decision making and critical thinking skills.
Excellent communicator, both verbally and written.
Strong planning and time-management skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to develop strong working relationships.
Willingness to learn and take initiative.
Results driven with the ability to work under pressure and balance multiple priorities.
Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
