Summary

The Corporate Safety Manager will lead, develop, coordinate, and implement occupational health policies and procedures to promote and ensure effective safety operations in the organization.

Location

This position will report to our home office located in Bozeman, MT. Travel to project sites located throughout the Western United States will be required periodically.

Essential Functions

  • Collaborates with management to develop, prepare, and implement and enforce NWC safety policies and procedures.
  • Update / maintain corporate and project safety manuals.
  • Oversee safety incentive program.
  • Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local safety laws, regulations, codes, and rules.
  • Prepare and review Safety Plans, Accident Prevention Plans and Job Hazard Analyses.
  • Ensures completion of required OSHA recordkeeping and reporting.
  • Stops operations and activities that could harm employees or equipment.
  • Conducts employee training on applicable safety standards.
  • Reviews safety training and recommends revisions, improvements, and updates.
  • Conducts safety inspections and audits to assess employee compliance with safety regulations.
  • Reviews accident investigation / incident reports and assists as needed.
  • Work with Workman’s Comp representatives on any open cases.
  • Track and provide insight into common issues, trends, problems, and opportunities to reduce losses and incident costs; maintain information and performance measurement systems to ensure that loss information is tracked and effectively communicated.
  • Regularly report to senior management.
  • Participate in pre-construction and regular contractor status meetings.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Competencies

  • Extensive knowledge of current company safety policies and applicable Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards for the construction industry.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to conduct and document training.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong supervisory and leadership skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities

    Oversight of Site Safety Professionals. Ensures that project staff maintain the OSHA safety log and other administrative requirements related to safety operations and regulations.

    Minimum Requirements

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future.
  • Must have a valid, unrestricted Driver’s License.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health, or related field required.
  • CHST Certification and / or CSP / ASP / OHST with relevant experience in the heavy civil Construction industry.
  • At least five (5) years of occupational health and safety experience in a construction environment required. Heavy civil construction experience preferred.
  • Completion of OSHA 30 training.
  • Familiarity with OSHA 1926 construction industry regulations.
  • Experienced with Bureau of Reclamation Safety and Health Standards (RSHS).
  • Experienced with US Army Corps of Engineers Safety and Health Requirements Manual (EM 385-1-1).
  • Must be willing to travel periodically to project sites located throughout the United States.
  • Position is full time in person based in Bozeman, MT.
  • Current first aid / CPR certification preferred.
  • Experience with MSHA safety requirements preferred.
  • Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times.
  • Ability to freely access all points of a construction site in wide-ranging climates and environments to conduct safety inspections.
