Reports to: Practice Manager

Job Classification: Non-Exempt, Hourly, Regular Full-Time

Typical Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00 to 5:00

Pay range: $19.00 to $25.45 per hour.

Northwest Gastroenterology is looking for a Full-Time Patient Access Coordinator to join our Gastroenterology team as soon as possible! GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:

The Patient Access Coordinator is the first point of contact for all persons inquiring about the provider’s practice. This position is responsible for scheduling patient appointments, check-in and discharge, properly registering new and established patients, as well as updating, scanning, verifying, and/or entering necessary information into the patients EMR.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Optimistically greet customers into the practice and provide instruction and/or direction as necessary both on the phone and in person.
  • Register all patients into the EMR system according to the policies and procedures of Northwest Gastroenterology.
  • Answer phones courteously, collect and document detailed information, schedule/reschedule patients, scan/upload patient test results/referrals.
  • Efficiently provide basic administrative support tasks such as mailing, faxing, sorting, typing, filing, etc.
  • Ability to work in both areas of scheduling (Front and Back office).
  • Generate letters to patients who miss or cancel their appointments at the last minute.
  • Request patient records for patients not previously seen in the EMR.
  • Collect, post, and balance payments according to policies and procedures of Northwest Gastroenterology.
  • Have a working knowledge of HIPAA to ensure confidentiality of patient information and medical records.
  • Actively Participate in Team Meetings.
  • Processing referrals and scheduling
  • Have the ability to multi-task and stay organized in a busy work environment.
  • Maintain an organized and clean work area, free of clutter.
  • Maintain a good working relationship within the department and other departments.

SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:

· Perform other duties as assigned by the practice manager or lead patient access coordinator.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Prior medical office experience preferred.

Environmental/Working Conditions

· Occasionally, additional work hours may be required and/or hours may be shortened as needs dictate.

· Must be able to sit for extended periods of time

· Position may require you to be on the phone for extended periods of time.

· Must be able to lift 20 pounds

· Must be willing to do functions that are often repetitive.

Who We Are

We are committed to providing the best possible digestive care to the people of Whatcom County and adjoining areas since 1979. Our gastroenterologists are digestive disease specialists. After medical school, we completed residencies in general internal medicine before pursuing specialized fellowship training in digestive diseases. All of our partnered physicians are Board-certified in gastroenterology.

We evaluate and treat many symptoms, including swallowing disorders, heartburn, abdominal pain and gas, gastrointestinal bleeding, nausea and vomiting, anemia, constipation, diarrhea, and unexplained weight loss. Some of the many diseases we specialize in are gastro-esophageal reflux (GERD), Barrett’s esophagus, H. pylori infection, celiac disease, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth, hepatitis, cirrhosis, gallbladder problems, bile duct cancers, pancreatitis, carcinoid, ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease, microscopic colitis, colon polyps, and colon cancer. We also screen for colon cancer via colonoscopy.

We can perform procedures to inspect most areas of the digestive system. During procedures, interventions can be performed including tissue sampling, small intestine fluid collection, balloon or tapered bougie dilation, expandable stent placement, and polyp removal.

As the only single-specialty gastroenterology clinic in Bellingham, we have an experienced team of physicians, physician assistants, advanced nurse practitioners, nurses, and support staff to provide you with exemplary care through every step of your evaluation. Our integrated electronic health record system will allow us to offer quick turnaround for labs, prescription requests, and endoscopy and consultation reports.
