About Nwestco
Nwestco is a leading service and construction provider for fueling and car wash systems across the western U.S. With a strong emphasis on operational safety, regulatory compliance, and fleet performance, we are looking for a knowledgeable and hands-on Safety and Compliance Officer to lead these efforts company-widewith a specific focus on Californias unique regulatory environment.
About the Role
As our new Safety and Compliance Officer, youll take full ownership of Nwestcos safety, compliance, and fleet programs. Youll be responsible for implementing and managing systems that keep our employees safe, our fleet compliant, and our operations aligned with federal and California-specific regulations. Youll also inherit the responsibilities previously held by two team members, supported during your transition by one of them in a part-time advisory capacity.
Key Responsibilities
Safety Program Management

Maintain and improve company-wide safety programs, including Californias IIPP

Conduct audits, inspections, and site-specific hazard assessments

Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, Cal/OSHA, CARB, CDFA, and hazardous material handling/reporting

Develop safety plans for construction, service, and shop work across multiple branches

Respond to incidents and oversee investigations, reporting, and corrective actions
Training & Culture

Coordinate monthly safety meetings and toolbox talks

Coordinate with Branch Managers and their teams on safety-related issues

Deliver field-specific safety training using online platforms like Mastery.com

Track and manage safety certifications, annual physicals, and refresher courses (e.g., HAZWOPER)

Promote an engaged, accountable safety culture across all teams
Fleet Compliance & Oversight

Oversee vehicle maintenance tracking and inspection scheduling

Maintain fleet documentation and driver records using systems such as Fleetio and Samsara
-
Manage annual filings including UCR, heavy vehicle use tax, T-1 permits, and CARB off-road equipment reporting
Documentation & Regulatory Reporting

Ensure accurate and timely completion of all required compliance reporting

Track personnel certs, vehicle PM intervals, and operational permits

Support internal record keeping including document retention and archive disposal

Interface with regulatory agencies when needed
Qualifications
-
3 years of experience in safety and compliance management (preferably in construction or industrial services)

In-depth knowledge of California-specific regulatory requirements

Familiarity with OSHA, DOT, CARB, and hazardous materials standards

Proficient with fleet/safety software (Samsara, Fleetio, Mastery.com or similar)

Ability to travel regularly between multiple branches in California

Strong organizational and communication skills

Forklift or warehouse equipment operation experience is a plus
Before You Leap:
Some positions require travel and overnight stays. Travel expenses will be covered by Nwestco, LLC
All job offers are contingent upon successful completion of the following:

Ability to pass pre-employment drug-screening and background check.

Ability to pass pre-employment physical with extensive lifting (up to 75 lb), twisting, pulling, kneeling, and squatting.

A valid driver's license with a clean driving record over the past 5 years required.

IMPORTANT: For positions classified as safety-sensitive, applicants are required to pass a comprehensive drug screening, which includes testing for marijuana, as a condition of employment. While marijuana use may be legal in some states where Nwestco operates, it is important to note that federal regulations and company policies mandate drug testing for all safety-sensitive roles, including those governed by the Department of Transportation (DOT). Applicants for these positions must successfully meet these requirements to be eligible for employment.
