What are the responsibilities and job description for the 1:1 CAREGIVER (DSP) for Child with Special Needs – Latham, NY [AA] position at NY Support Broker?
I’m seeking a paid caregiver (Direct Service Provider, ComHab, Community Habilitation) for my son, 8, who has profound autism. He’s able to communicate through pointing, gesturing, single phrases or one-word answers. He’s kind and gentle, but is an elopement risk, and requires eyes-on supervision at all times.
This is a 1-on-1 position, starting at $22/hr, going up to $23/hr after a successful trial period.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
-Showing care, compassion, and encouragement to a child with special needs.
-Supervision in the home and out in the community.
-Transportation to activities, special events, and appointments (mileage reimbursable at 55-cents a mile).
-Assistance with personal care (hygiene, grooming, toileting).
-Assisting with or providing household responsibilities to include, but not limited to: meal preparation and cooking, cleaning, grocery & supply shopping, etc.
-Promote healthy living through implementing plans for nutrition, exercise, and activities.
-Ensure the safety of the person at home and in the community.
Qualifications:
-Valid NYS driver’s license and personal transportation is required.
-Ability to work independently, demonstrate sound judgment and complete necessary documentation.
-All employees must consent to a full criminal background check and fingerprinting.

- 4 hour shift
- 8 hour shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
