What are the responsibilities and job description for the CAREGIVER (DSP) for Adult with Special Needs – Albany, NY [FG] position at NY Support Broker?
My cousin, 31, is a sweet man with autism and related anxiety. I am his guardian, and he lives with me and my husband in a comfortable home with good supports. He communicates verbally in simple phrases. He’s a peaceful, mellow person. We're seeking a paid community habilitation worker (Direct Service Provider) who can supervise him at home, as well as bring him out into the community, help him engage in activities, and develop life skills.
This is a one-on-one position paid at $23/hr. Full-time hours are available.
If you work in the care field—previous DSP experience, daycare, senior care—this is a great chance to work in a less-hectic environment with a single person and really make a difference in their lives.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
-Showing care, compassion, and encouragement to a person with special needs.
-Supervision in the home and out in the community.
-Transportation to activities, special events, and appointments (mileage reimbursable).
-Assistance with personal care (hygiene, grooming, toileting).
-Assist/supervise participant with his household duties, like safely preparing his own meals, light cooking, and cleaning up after himself.
-Promote healthy living through implementing plans for nutrition, exercise, and activities, as well as assisting the participant with grocery shopping.
-Ensure the safety of the person at home and in the community.
Qualifications:
-High School diploma or GED is required. Valid NYS driver’s license and personal transportation is required.
-Ability to work independently, demonstrate sound judgment and complete necessary documentation.
