Job Overview
Nyack Neighborhood Veterinary is a new privately-owned veterinary practice coming soon to Rockland County. We are a community-focused practice that provides high-quality patient care and stream-lined client service through honest collaborative dialogue, effective use of technology, and efficient hospital protocols.
The Veterinary Assistant helps the veterinarian and veterinary technician with appointments, diagnostics, and treatments, prepares prescriptions, communicates with clients, and maintains cleanliness of the clinic.
Responsibilities
- Greet clients and their pets warmly and escort them into exam rooms.
- Obtain patient histories and brief the veterinarian.
- Maintain accurate patient records and ensure that all information is up-to-date.
- Assist veterinary staff with patient intake and discharge procedures.
- Assist veterinary staff with holding of animals for exams, blood draws, radiographs and procedures.
- Accurately dispense prescription medications as directed by veterinarian.
- Provide basic information on animal care, medications, and treatment plans to clients.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the exam rooms and treatment area.
- Collaborate with veterinary team to ensure smooth clinic operations.
- Assist in receptionist duties as needed, including receiving incoming calls, scheduling appointments, and charging out clients.
Experience
The ideal candidate will possess the following skills:
- Experience as a Veterinary Assistant is preferred.
- Proficiency in handling dogs and cats safely and compassionately.
- Experience in laboratory procedures related to veterinary care is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with pet owners and team members.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $18.00 - $23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 15 – 25 per week
