What are the responsibilities and job description for the CEC Budget and Operations Intern position at NYC Civic Engagement Commission?
About the Civic Engagement Commission:
In November 2018, New York City voters approved three ballot initiatives establishing the New York City Civic Engagement Commission. The Commission is focused on promoting civic engagement across all of City government and making New York City decision making accessible to all New Yorkers. Specifically, the Charter mandates the Commission with running a citywide participatory budgeting program, providing poll site interpretation services, providing technical assistance to community boards, partnering with community-based organizations and civic leaders to increase awareness of City services, and assisting City agencies in developing civic engagement initiatives.
The Budget & Operations Intern will:
15 Hours per week. Schedule to be determined.
Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time (17 ½ hours) in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.

Minimum Qualifications
For Assignment Level I:
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.
For Assignment Level II (Information Technology):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.
For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.
SPECIAL NOTE
Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.
Preferred Skills
The preferred candidate should possess the following: - Undergraduate or graduate interns must be currently enrolled or accepted into an accredited college or university. - Passionate about civic engagement, city government, the citys neighborhoods and their issues, problems and needs - Prior experience with budget planning and budget tracking, operations for offices and programs - Strong analytical, research, and communications skills. - Familiarity with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe - Experience with project management, including software such as Airtable
Residency Requirement
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.

- Assist in the development of budget and operations materials, both internal and external, including and not limited to scope of works, contract payment tracking, vendor communications,
- Support the funding of task orders and contracts that support large programmatic spend categories including TRIE and the citywide participatory budgeting program ;
- Assist in executing standard operating procedures that support the procurement and budget needs of the agency;
- Support the CEC in additional programmatic needs and special projects at the discretion of the budget manager and the senior Program and Strategy Officer.
