A member of the OSWP Implementation team, the Field Support Specialist will act as the primary contact for district, schools, and teachers, ensuring that they receive comprehensive support for OSWP programs and wellness initiatives. In this role, the Field Support Specialist will foster understanding of health and wellness programs, including but not limited to Move-to-Improve and CHAMPS, while serving as a liaison with external partners to ensure program fidelity. The role will collaborate with schools to enhance PE, Health Education, and wellness efforts by customizing support based on their unique needs as informed by progress data monitoring, and reporting on benchmarks and best practices. The Field Support Specialist will also implement strategies for data collection, assist in resource dissemination and actively participate in program planning and evaluation to strengthen OSWP’s impact across NYCPS. Performs related work.

Responsibilities
- Serve as the point of contact for the field (districts, schools, teachers) for all OSWP programs, supports, and resources.
- Work with districts and schools to promote understanding of PE and Health Education requirements and wellness programs, including but not limited to, Move-to-Improve, CHAMPS, Condom Availability Program and School Wellness Councils.
- Support tailored program implementation by collaborating with districts to customize OSWP guidance and support to meet specific needs, ensuring the effective delivery of PE and Health education instruction.
- Provide the field direct support through guidance, resources, and troubleshooting, including coordinating one-on-one meetings to enhance wellness and health education program understanding and implementation.
- Develop systems and procedures to ensure program consistency and effective execution.
- Develop/modify and implement data collection strategies to support project goals, document progress, and report on benchmarks and best practices.
- Identify personal areas of expertise to enhance content and knowledge within and across OSWP teams to further support schools.
- Support the field with implementation of the NYCPS Wellness Policy; document and share these practices through OSWP communication tools and systems.
- Assist district-based personnel with distributing information and resources about physical education and health education programming.
- Plan and implement daily work streams related to recruitment, training, data analysis, and engagement, identifying programmatic challenges and recommending solutions.
- Collaborate with internal staff to enhance programs and establish strong relationships with external partners, teams, and or organizations.
- Under the guidance of the Director of Implementation, work with the content teams to implement initiatives that support all NYCPS and districts, in developing quality health education and physical education programs that meet NYSED requirements and support student achievement.
- Establish and continually affirm relationships with the field to better address barriers to health and physical education.
Minimum
- A master’s degree from an accredited college or university in education, educational psychology, educational leadership, public administration, public policy, social work, or a closely related field, and two years of satisfactory, full-time progressively responsible professional experience in education administration, in such areas as: portfolio planning, educational grants/funding, student enrollment, assessment and accountability, youth development, special education, early childhood, program evaluation, policy research, college and career readiness, health and wellness, immunization, diagnostic and treatment services for parents and children, out of school programs, career and occupational education, curriculum development, evaluation and testing, educational planning, and educational statistics, or a related field, at least 18 months of this experience must have been in an executive, managerial, consultative, administrative or supervisory capacity in education administration; or
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university and four years of satisfactory, fulltime progressively responsible professional experience, in one or more of the areas as described in “1” above, at least 18 months of which must have been in an executive, managerial, consultative, administrative or supervisory capacity; or
- A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six years of satisfactory, full time professional experience, in one or more of the areas as described in “1” above, at least 18 months of which must have been in an executive, managerial, consultative, administrative or supervisory capacity; or
- Education and/or experience equivalent to “1”, “2”, or “3” above. Undergraduate education above the high school level may be substituted for professional experience, in the areas described in “1” above, at the rate of 30 semester credits from an accredited college or university for each year of experience, up to a maximum of 4 years. Graduate education in areas other than those mentioned above, may be substituted for the professional experience, at the rate of 15 graduate semester credits from an accredited college or university, for 6 months of experience, up to a maximum of 1 year of professional experience. However, all candidates must have a high school diploma or its educational equivalent and 18 months of experience in an executive, managerial, consultative, administrative or supervisory capacity in education administration as described above.
- Strong task oriented and project management skills; extremely well organized.
- Ability to prioritize and work independently under strict timelines to meet frequent and changing deadlines, handle many responsibilities simultaneously, and communicate on the status of projects.
- Excellent computer skills with PowerPoint, Excel, and LCD projector experience.
- Outstanding spoken and written communication skills.
- Familiarity with the NYCPS system, as well as school-based systems, budgets, and staffing.
- Excellent communication and writing skills, comfort with translating academic research into policy, and a desire to work in a team environment on a broad range of integrated initiatives.
- Excellent grasp of monitoring and evaluation and data analysis, and the capacity to effectively communicate findings to a broad range of audiences.
- Strong desire to work in a fast-paced, collaborative office; strong team work ethic, sense of humor, and understanding of diplomacy.
- Knowledge of best practices and current trends in school wellness policy, physical education, health education and NYCPS initiatives.
- Attentive to detail, extremely well-organized, with the ability to work under pressure and meet frequent and changing deadlines.
- Ability to prioritize, work independently, handle many responsibilities simultaneously, and provide follow-up.
