The Department of Design and Construction, Division of Public Buildings seeks an Associate Commissioner to lead the Architecture & Engineering Unit. The Associate Commissioner will be accountable for multi-disciplinary teams of architects, engineers, and construction professionals overseeing the technical review (design, regulatory issues, constructability and biddability) for the agency’s capital projects portfolio. Candidate is responsible for overseeing (8) units including Architecture, Engineering, Bid Packaging & Specifications, Front End Planning/Advanced Capital Planning, Design & Construction Excellence, Chief Architect’s Office, Sustainable Design and Building Assessment. Collectively, these teams manage overall technical review of design consultant submissions and all requirements for bid, project scoping, schedule and budget development. Candidate shall review and assess the portfolio-wide needs of our sponsor’s capital programs, coordinate requirements for all design and construction management professional services contracts; coordinate and develop design standards and guidelines; ensure compliance with sustainability, resiliency, and commissioning practices; provide high-level assessments of the conditions of the city’s capital assets. The candidate will also: Drive support of division goals, providing leadership to shape process improvements; analyze/coordinate workflow changes ensuring their implementation; ensure efficient distribution of staff and consultant resources; participate in citywide initiatives and programs; assume the role of Deputy Commissioner in his absence.

ADMINISTRATIVE ARCHITECT - 10004
Minimum Qualifications
A valid New York State Registration as an Architect is required. In addition, candidates must have six ( 6 ) years of full-time paid experience in architectural work, at least two (2) years of which shall have been as an administrative architect.
Preferred Skills
Candidates must have 10 years of managerial experience and at least two years as manager of a major business unit within a multi-divisional Architecture & Engineering organization (public or private). Candidates must have excellent interpersonal, written and oral skills. This position requires extensive experience with multi-discipline design construction contracts, issues, documents the ability to analyze projects and contractual situations. Must have current and up-to-date knowledge of the operations, design and construction of diverse building types a thorough understanding of current architectural and engineering design principles and practices demonstrated ability to develop project scope and build consensus, facilitate teamwork capability to manage diverse sponsor agencies and work groups preference will be given to candidates with a minimum of fifteen years of full-time experience as a Registered Architect or Professional Engineer. The ideal candidate should have experience in new construction and renovation work in the public sector, or in institutional and commercial buildings.
