Responsibilities
- Maintain the tidiness of the DVS office reception area and the materials on display there
- Greet clients in the reception area and enter them into the DVS visitor log
- Alert DVS staff when clients have arrived for a meeting
- Answer phone calls and take messages
- Answer emails
- Handle mail and other correspondence
- Check client eligibility for DVS programs
- Schedule appointments for new and existing clients
- Direct clients outside of NYC to the veteran resources in their states
- Assist clients in contacting US Department of Veterans Affairs offices in and around NYC
- Assist DVS housing and benefits staff with special projects
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications

- High school graduation or equivalent and three years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to duties described above; or
- Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" above.
- Written and verbal communication skills - Customer service skills - Ability to multitask and prioritize - Dependability - Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint - Problem-solving skills - Ability to work under pressure - Attention to detail - Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) software - Military cultural competency and the ability to understand and work with veterans, military service members, and military family members with a variety of backgrounds and experiences
