The New York City Department of Investigation (DOI) is one of the oldest law enforcement agencies in the country with a mission of combating municipal corruption. DOI's Squad 5, which oversees City-elected officials, City-funded not-for-profit organizations, City agencies involved in the City election process, the Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD), the Department for the Aging (DFTA), the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications (DoITT), and the Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings (OATH), seeks a highly skilled and motivated attorney to serve as Senior Investigative Attorney. The Senior Investigative Attorney will conduct and assist a variety of highly confidential and sensitive investigations into corruption, fraud, waste, and misconduct involving New York City officials, employees, and persons or entities doing business with the City.

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. The Senior Investigative Attorney will be responsible for, among other things:
- Drafting and editing a variety of documents for both public and internal audiences, including complex investigative reports and legal memoranda;
- Reviewing and analyzing legal documents, financial records, and other documents, including contracts, vendor records, agency policies, and controls;
- Conducting legal research and analysis;
- Preparing subpoenas and document requests, and managing responses;
- Conducting interviews of witnesses and subjects; and
- Working collaboratively with other investigative units, prosecutorial bodies, and City agencies.
Preferred Skills
- Three (3) or more years of professional legal experience in investigations, criminal or civil litigation, government, regulatory, or similar legal fields. -Excellent legal writing and editing skills, with extensive experience drafting reports, memoranda, briefs, pleadings, and correspondence with limited supervision. Prior experience drafting and editing investigative reports highly desired. -Effective at communicating complex information to internal and external stakeholders in an accessible manner. -Experience conducting interviews, depositions, or other testimony. -Comfort with using technology in connection with long-term investigations. -High degree of professionalism, including ability to represent agency before senior City officials. -Excellent interpersonal skills, with an ability to communicate effectively with a variety of personnel at DOI, other law enforcement agencies, and officials at City agencies. -Proactive and takes ownership over the mission of the work unit. -Ability to manage multiple priorities and operate effectively in a fast-paced work environment. -Ability to work with teams composed of investigators, attorneys, policy analysts, and auditors, and to comprehend financial, statistical, and policy issues raised in connection with investigations. -Effective problem-solving abilities and demonstrated sound judgment. -Knowledge of New York City government is a plus, but not required. If selected, the candidate will be fingerprinted and undergo a background investigation. In addition, for positions that have a law enforcement and/or investigative function, the candidate's consumer credit history will be reviewed during the background investigation, and as otherwise permitted by NYC Administrative Code 8-107(24)(b)(2)(A).
