The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene's Division of Environmental Health works to prevent and control illness and injury related to environmental and occupational health risks through outreach, education, surveillance and enforcement. With staff of 1,000, the Division covers a broad range of subject matter, including oversight of environmental investigations, lead poisoning, injury prevention, occupational health, food safety, child care, radiation control, recreational and drinking water quality, air quality, climate health, vector control, veterinary public health and pest control. The Division of Environmental Health seeks a Senor Crew Chief (Supervisor Pest Control L-2) for its Bureau of Veterinary and Pest Control Services

Duties Will Include But Not Be Limited To

Schedule and supervising crew to various work sites to perform refuse removal activities. Arrange and oversee the transportation of crew members and equipment to Work sites.

Thoroughly inspect working sites and make recommendations to have further actions taken on said site. Make field visits to monitor the City Pest Control Aide cleanup activities.

Ensure that work has been completed in accordance with bureau standards and that adequate supplies are providing and supervises the storage of those supplies. Complete daily record of work activities. Monitor staff attendance and assist the team in adhering to all requirements

Preferred Skills

Must have experience in managing staff and in data entry, a driver's license in good standing is desired.

SUPERVISOR (PEST CONTROL) - 90505

Minimum Qualifications

Qualification Requirements

  • One year of full-time, satisfactory experience in a rodent control program in cleanup, extermination or community education activities related thereto; or
  • One year of full-time, satisfactory experience performing work in one or a combination of the following areas including three months experience supervising at least three individuals:
  • Rodent or pest control
  • Trash collection
  • Street cleaning
  • Park maintenance
  • Building cleaning
  • Community service work dealing with groups and individuals

SPECIAL NOTE: For placement in Assignment Level III:

  • Four years of experience as a Supervisor (Pest Control) Assignment Level I or II; or
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college including or
  • A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and five (5) years of full-time paid professional experience as described in (a) above, at least one year of which must have been in a supervisory or administration capacity; or
  • A satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience.

However, all candidates must be high school graduates or possess the

equivalent as described in (c) above and all candidates must have at least one year of full-time paid professional or administrative experience as described in (a) above.

Residency Requirement

New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
