The Department of Probation is seeking to hire one (1) Supervisor of Candidate Investigations in the Human Resources Division. The Supervisor of Candidate Investigations will oversee and manage a team responsible for conducting pre-employment background investigations. The role ensures compliance with applicable policies, procedures, and federal, state, and local laws, while maintaining the integrity and accuracy of candidate investigations. This position also involves providing guidance, training, and supervision to staff, as well as handling escalated cases and ensuring high-quality outcomes.
Duties
Under the direction of the Director of Recruitment and Candidate Investigations, the Supervisor of Candidate Investigations will perform the following duties:
Oversee daily operations of the Candidate Investigations team, ensuring investigations are conducted efficiently and in compliance with relevant regulations.
Train, guide, and support investigators in performing their responsibilities, including best practices for background investigations.
Assign cases, monitor progress, and review investigative reports for accuracy and thoroughness.
Provide performance feedback, coaching, and evaluations to promote professional development among team members.
Ensure all investigations align with applicable policies, procedures, and federal, state, and local laws.
Conduct quality assurance reviews of completed investigations to confirm accuracy, consistency, and compliance.
Handle escalated or complex investigations, including reviewing and resolving any discrepancies in candidate-provided information.
Validate the findings of team members and prepare detailed case summaries for higher-level review when needed.
Manage and maintain database systems used for storing and tracking investigative records and candidate case files.
Ensure the confidentiality and security of all candidate data in adherence to data protection laws and organizational policies.
Develop, implement, and refine processes to increase efficiency in candidate investigations and reporting.
Support organizational goals by identifying opportunities to improve hiring processes through investigative insights.
INVESTIGATOR (EMPLOYEE DISCIPL - 31172
Minimum Qualifications
A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in criminal justice, forensic auditing, forensic science, police science, criminology, criminal justice administration and planning, and/or law or related field and two years of satisfactory full time related experience conducting investigations of alleged employee misconduct, interviewing witnesses and taking statements, managing caseloads, analyzing disciplinary procedures and making recommendations for improvement, interpreting rules, regulations and policies, preparing written reports of investigative findings, making presentations, or in a major operational area of the agency in which the appointment is to be made.
Requirements
To be eligible for placement to Assignment Level II or III, individuals must have, after meeting the minimum requirements, one of the following:
A master’s degree in criminal justice, forensic psychology or science, industrial and/or organizational psychology, labor relations, public administration, or a closely related field; or
At least two additional years of experience as described in “1” above.
Preferred Skills
Experience in conducting background investigations or related fields, with supervisory experience preferred. Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local laws relevant to pre-employment investigations. Excellent leadership, communication, and decision-making skills. Attention to detail and ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
