What are the responsibilities and job description for the Vendex Investigator position at NYC Department of Housing Preservation & Development?
The New York City Department of Investigation (DOI) is one of the oldest law enforcement agencies in the country with a mission of combating municipal corruption. It serves the people of New York City by acting as an independent and nonpartisan watchdog for New York City government, City agencies, and City employees, vendors with City contracts, individuals and entities that receive City funds.
DOI is seeking a self-motivated individual to conduct confidential investigations of for-profit and not-for-profit vendors, affiliates and principals being selected to provide goods and/or services as part of the City of New York procurement process. The investigator will use DOIs internal database(s) to assign vendor name checks, conduct research, determine if adverse information needs to be reported, draft memorandums of findings and utilize computer systems to track and submit data.
If selected, the candidate will be fingerprinted and undergo a background investigation. In addition, because the position has a law enforcement and/or investigative function, the candidate's consumer credit history will be reviewed during the background investigation, as permitted by NYC Administrative Code 8-107(24)(b)(2)(A).

Minimum Qualifications
- A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization and four years of satisfactory full-time experience in an industrial or governmental agency in the field of investigation, auditing, law enforcement, security, inspections, or in a major operational area of the agency in which the appointment is to be made; or
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university; or
- Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above.
- Strong writing, editing, and ability to prepare professional emails, memos, letters, and reports. 2. Excellent verbal communication active listening, conflict resolution and interpersonal skills. 3. Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and addressing unforeseen challenges. 4. Ability to analyze, assess and draw conclusions from a variety of sources. 5. Strong computer skills including Word, Excel, Access, and the ability to effectively utilize search engines.
