Center for Health Equity and Community Wellness (CHECW) aims to eliminate racial inequities resulting in premature mortality, focusing on chronic disease by addressing the social and environmental factors that impact health. CHECW seeks to hire an Executive Director for its Bureau of Bronx Neighborhood Health.

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO :

  • Reporting to the Assistant Commissioner for the Bronx Neighborhood Health, the Executive Director will oversee programmatic and operational components.
  • Research, develop, and implement various health programs.
  • Ensure the Bureau's goals, objectives, and programs are coordinated.
  • Work closely with the Bureau Directors to create evidence-informed initiatives.
  • Conduct studies of the bureau's policies and procedures.
  • Gather and analyze data about bureau operations.
  • Oversee the research and analysis of best practices.
  • Coordinate and prepare reports on bureau activities.
  • Serve as project manager for new initiatives.
  • Oversee Bureau's staffing.
  • Monitor and provide support for all administrative functions.
  • Participate in public health emergency response as needed.
  • Ensure a racial equity and social justice lens is applied to all Bureau work.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Commissioner.

    Minimum Qualifications

  • For Assignment Level I, a master's degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in an appropriate field of physical, biological or environmental science or in public health.
  • To be appointed to Assignment Level II and above, candidates must have :

  • A doctorate degree from an accredited college or university with specialization in an appropriate field and one year of full-time experience; or
  • A master's degree with specialization and three years of responsible full-time research experience; or
  • Equivalent education and / or experience.
  • NOTE : Appointments to this position are subject to a minimum probationary period of one year.

    Preferred Skills

  • Extensive knowledge of and experience in health equity programs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build strong relationships.
  • Prior experience leading multi-faceted initiatives.
  • Strong intersectional racial justice lens.
  • Residency Requirement

    New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment.
