The Bronx District Attorney’s Office is seeking a well-qualified staff whose diverse backgrounds reflect an ability to serve the over 1.3 million members of the Bronx County community and pursue a safer Bronx through fair justice. The Office is seeking an experienced attorney to handle complex post-conviction litigation, including direct appeals, motion responses, and federal writs of habeas corpus.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Specific duties will include, but are not limited to the following:
- Brief and argue appeals and other post-conviction matters in New York State and federal courts
- Edit briefs of junior Appeals ADAs
- Conduct and second-seat post-conviction evidentiary hearings and train junior Appeals ADAs to do the same
- Provide legal counsel to trial and investigative bureaus
- Serve as a moot court judge for other Appeals ADAs
- Serve as a "Team Leader" for junior Appeals ADAs
- Evaluate, brief, and argue government appeals taken by the Bronx DA's Office
- All other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- A Juris Doctorate degree and either:
- 15 years of appellate experience in a DA’s Office or
- 5 years of appellate experience in a DA’s Office plus 10 years of clerkship or legal counsel experience
- US Citizenship and New York State Residency as of first day of employment
- Superb legal research and writing skills
- Strong analytical and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently and effectively under deadlines - Ability to analyze and respond clearly and effectively (oral/written) to complex legal issues - Ability to supervise and mentor junior Appeals ADAs - Ability to exercise good judgment and strong sense of ethics - Ability to work nights, holidays, and weekends as needed
