The Furniture & Equipment Specialist is responsible for identifying, and researching more cost effective and innovative school furniture and equipment for future use by the Authority.
Job Description
Responsibilities include:
- Conduct reviews of drawings and/or specifications, provide comments and attend meetings for capacity projects during design phase.
- Assist F&E coordinators with room layouts relating to the placement of F&E including preparation of scaled room layouts using AutoCAD.
- Create F&E estimates for projects in design for submission to A&E.
- Conduct research on F&E options to ensure items meet F&E and DOE standards. Research product information as requested by the F&E team. Introduces new products to F&E team.
- Specify furniture and equipment for a project.
- Work with a wide range of technical, professional, managerial and support personnel, as well as outside vendors, contractors and government agencies.
- Converts unique furniture and equipment requirements into new standard room layouts and activity lists.
- Ensures that project furniture budgets are within designated furniture and equipment project cost estimates.
- Maintains reference library of alternate manufacturers and distributors of school furniture and equipment to be considered in future solicitations.
- Participates in development of procedures for the testing of specific school and pupil products for future use.
- Presents tested products for review and approval by the Authority and Department of Education.
- Monitors performance of selected products purchased by the Authority.
- Updates the appropriate furniture inventory for F&E Department use.
- Performs related duties, as assigned.
- Baccalaureate degree
- Two years of full time experience specifying furniture or interior design or a satisfactory combination of education and experience.
- Exceptional project management, organizational, and communication skills, with a proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a complex and fast-paced environment.
- Familiarity with design tools such as AutoCad, Blue Beam and Revit
- Experience working with or within New York City government agencies or other public sector organizations.

Salary : $75,863 - $87,242
