The Asset Management Property Operations Department is responsible for protecting and enhancing the value of City-owned real estate assets and serving the operational needs of tenant businesses. In addition, the department assists NYCEDC in the allocation of resources among its properties.
Your Role: The Mechanic position is responsible for the operations and maintenance of City-owned properties within NYCEDC’s Asset Management portfolio, specifically the Brooklyn Army Terminal (BAT) Campus in Brooklyn, NY, and other properties as assigned within the EDC portfolio. This role reports to the AVP of Operations of the BAT Campus.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintenance & Repairs:
- Perform preventive maintenance, repairs, and emergency services as directed, including electrical, gas, water & sewer, plumbing, heating ventilation and air conditioner (HVAC), domestic water pumps, carpentry, painting, masonry and general janitorial needs. Perform cleaning duties when required.
Field Management:
- Conduct daily inspections of assigned properties and inform supervisor of any maintenance issues or repairs needed. Ability to work autonomously but also receive guidance from the Specialty Mechanic or Lead Mechanic.
- Perform inspections and have familiarity with the functionality of the mechanical equipment.
- When directed, provide technical guidance to maintenance personnel, including scheduling and coordinating work assignments per supervisor direction.
Outsourced Contracting:
- Monitor and report work performed by outsourced contractors.
- Assist and escort outsourced contractors when required.
Communication and Reporting:
- Communicate effectively with peers, supervisors, and external partners.
- Report on repairs and projects with relevant stakeholders to provide status updates and ensure timely completion of work.
Emergency Response:
- Respond to emergencies as required. Must be available and responsive 24/7 and able to assist with solutions during the decision-making process as issues arise.
- Conduct snow removal duties at assigned sites.
Training:
- Assist the Specialty Mechanic and/or Lead Mechanic and learn new trades as needed.
- When directed, provide technical guidance to maintenance personnel, including scheduling and coordinating work assignments.
Duty Station and Site Reporting:
- This is an onsite position that requires a 5-day presence at the Sunset Park Campus with travel to our main office at One Liberty Plaza as needed.

Certifications: While not required at the time of hire, the following certifications (not limited to) are encouraged and may be obtained during employment:
- OSHA 30 Hour
- FDNY S12 Supervision of Sprinkler Systems (Citywide)
- FDNY S13 Supervision of Standpipe Systems (Citywide)
- FDNY S95 Supervision of Fire Alarm Systems
- Backhoes/heavy equipment training (Dump Truck/front-end loader/skid steer/backhoe)
- NYS Driver license Class D
- Power Industrial Truck Certification
- Aerial Work Platform Certification
- CPR/AED/Basic First Aid Training
- TWIC Certification
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification is a plus.
- 5 years of experience required with working knowledge in maintenance, inspections and repairs.
- Ability to use handheld and desktop computer devices to input work orders and record work.
- Must maintain a valid NYS Driver License with clean driving record.
- Working knowledge of construction and handyman repair techniques. Experience in electrical, plumbing, HVAC and equipment associated with trades.
- Experience working with hand tools, power tools, and materials, and equipment associated with construction related trades.
- Knowledge of New York City.
- New York City residence required within 180 days of hire.
Salary Range
$55,000 - $57,000 USD
