The Property Examiner (Inhouse) evaluates first and third-party property claims to determine coverage and damages based upon sound claim knowledge. They manage the claim process, including coverage verification, investigation, evaluation and disposition of the claim in compliance with applicable insurance regulations and NYCM’s best practices. They assess and ensure the customer’s needs and expectations of the claim process are met.

Description
The Property Examiner (Inhouse) evaluates first and third-party property claims to determine coverage and damages based upon sound claim knowledge. They manage the claim process, including coverage verification, investigation, evaluation and disposition of the claim in compliance with applicable insurance regulations and NYCM’s best practices. They assess and ensure the customer’s needs and expectations of the claim process are met.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Compile reports for management review.
- Issue settlement payments within the scope of coverage and authority.
- Effectively communicate and establish connections with the customers during the claim process.
- Professional handling of incoming and outgoing customer phone calls.
- Professional written communications such as emails, requests for information or coverage letters.
- Guide customers, including claimants, through the claim process, ensuring that they are informed at all stages.
- Manage customer concerns/complaints and independently develop and execute a plan to remedy the situation for a better customer experience.
- Review each claim to determine coverage.
- Investigate each claim to determine the cause, loss exposure and set appropriate reserves.
- Identify the need for outside experts and venders.
- Effectively manage a working diary of assigned claims in a timely fashion to conclusion.
- Manage cycle times and experience through file review and timely disposition.
- Present decisions to customers, including claimants, clearly outlining coverage, damages and claim disposition.
- Identify Fraud Indicators and submit referrals to the EFW and SIU as needed.
- Identify subrogation opportunities and manage subrogation files within authority and/or refer files for recovery to subrogation.
- Desk adjust property claims and negotiate with professionalism, enthusiasm, and articulation.
- Work on special projects and perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Travel as needed for claims and agency visits.
- High school diploma
- Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and Excel
- Excellent and effective oral and written communication skills
