POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the general supervision from the Equipment Manager and Sr Director of Operations & Administration, the New York Film Academy (NYFA) Technical Assistant I (TA I) will provide hands on assistance with the safe operation of technical equipment for classes, film shoots, events, and other day-to-day responsibilities to ensure the successful operation of the institution.
In this position as Film Equipment Technical Assistant:
- Experience with camera knowledge: Sony FS5, RED Komodo, RED V-Raptor, Arri SR-2, Arri Alexa, Panavision.
- Experience with audio knowledge: Zoom Recorders, Sound Device MixPre 6-II, Wireless Lavaliers, Sennheiser
- Bachelors Degree in related field. Experience may substitute for required education up to 4 years.
HOURS: Part Time position with Flexible Hours
REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Offer technical assistance to students on NYFA projects and class exercises and ensure their proper and safe use of equipment.
- Work as additional film crew on certain workshops. (Crew Positions: DP, AC, Sound Mixer, Boom Operator, Grip, Gaffer, AD, Producer, Editor, Driver, D.I.T, Production Assistant (PA))
- Label and deliver media.
- Safely pack, test and deliver film equipment to and from locations.
- Set up, assist and film school events.
- Support Equipment Staff.
- Support Administrative staff with facilities and operations needs.
- Reinforce general and specific safety procedures.
- Maintaining attitude of positivity and efficiency during class exercises.
- Other duties as assigned by Equipment Management, Operations Management or Senior Management.
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCIES:
- Camera and Audio knowledge.
- Grip & Electric experience required.
- Knowledge of A/V equipment.
- Broad knowledge of the industry and professional related experience.
- General classroom, equipment and on-set safety and etiquette.
- Knowledge in problem solving/troubleshooting in time sensitive situations.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to develop and maintain positive working relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds including student, faculty and staff.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to meet and serve the public, both in person and by telephone, tactfully and effectively.
- Ability to work well in a team atmosphere.
- Understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and understand multi-step written and oral instructions.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and CERTIFICATION:
- Bachelors Degree in related field. Experience may substitute for required education up to 4 years.
- Experience providing technical support on film shoots and/or art events required.
- Experience with assisting with zoom setup in a higher education setting.
- Experience working in a higher education, academic setting.
- Experience working in a fast pace, multi-tasking, results drive environment with attention to detail.
- Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Suite Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint
- Valid Drivers License preferred.
- Experience driving cargo vans, box trucks or lift gate trucks preferred.
