Primary Role:
The Academic Advisor collaborates with school counselors and administrators to support the whole child in post-secondary planning and preparation. The Academic Advisor develops and supports school programs that are designed to empower students to engage in individualized academic and career planning. The Academic Advisor is responsible for providing educational guidance and assistance for students through planning schedules, recommending courses, determining appropriate educational solutions and coordinating standardized and college preparation testing.


Qualifications:


  • Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university

    • Texas School Counselor certification preferred
    • Demonstrated organizational, prioritization, communication, and interpersonal skills required to achieve the goals of the position and meet the diversity of the students, community, district staff and the public at large

  • Minimum of 3 years experience working with high school students in academics, student advising or counseling


Professional Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Implements and leads the development of a schoolwide Effective Advising Framework for individual student planning that is aligned with the Texas School Counseling Program.
  • Coordinates comprehensive transition activities for students advancing between grade level programs and graduation.
  • Coordinates and facilitates academic planning meetings with high school students and parents in alignment with course selection and planning, college and career exploration, financial aid, service.
  • Provides training and guidance to instructional staff that is aligned with CCMR competencies and skills.
  • Guides and promotes college Dual Credit program and serves as college and university liaison, assisting students in the initial application process.
  • Promotes college awareness through promotion of scholarships, college fairs, invitations to college representatives, guidance with college applications and required FAFSA applications.
  • Implements campus programs and activities to ensure every student has a 4-year personal graduation plan that is reviewed at least annually and that is aligned with the Texas Foundation Graduation Plan requirements.
  • Collaborates with administrators, counselors and teachers to implement MTSS as well as to support student 504 plans and IEPs.
  • Collaborates with high school administrators to coordinate Individual Graduation Committees and Attendance Committees.
  • Collaborates with administrators to provide leadership and guidance of high school AP and CTE programs and pathways.
  • Collaborates with administrators to develop a master schedule of instructional course offerings.
  • Seeks out and participates in professional development on and off campus to successfully facilitate all students’ academic, career, personal and social development.
  • Supports high school counselors in obtaining student resources and providing referrals to community resources.
  • In collaboration with school leaders, analyzes and utilizes data to assist in the development and implementation of the school improvement plan.
  • Routinely accesses school data to monitor and support school efforts in meeting and exceeding State CCMR goals and accountability measures.
  • Serves as Test Coordinator for Organize, PSAT, ASVAB, SAT AND TSIA testing.
  • Participates in meetings and complies with all assignments, process improvement, and quality improvement initiatives as assigned by the immediate supervisor.

  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
