What are the responsibilities and job description for the Trades Generalist position at NYS Department of Environmental Conservation?
Minimum Qualifications
Four years of full-time experience in a trade under a skilled tradesperson which would provide training equivalent to that given in a training, apprenticeship, or equivalent program; or an equivalent combination of experience and training gained by completion of technical courses in skilled trades at a school, institute, or branch of the Armed Services. When required to operate motor vehicles, candidates must possess a valid New York State driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle to be operated.
Duties Description
PLUMBING: Will perform work on residential water and sewer systems so as to service the systems in the facilities operated out of the Green Island Maintenance Center and the Warrensburg Working Circle. This will include seasonal start up and shut down -winterization annually. The systems vary in design, some old/some newly rehabilitated with many types of materials used for such infrastructure.
ELECTRICAL: Will perform basic electrical work to make minor repairs and modifications.
CARPENTRY: Will be required to perform all aspects of carpentry; to include but not limited to roofing, building rehabilitation, new construction and building repair. Candidate must be able to make material lists, obtain quotes and may be required to lead projects to completion.
This position will be involved with other areas of support and maintenance at facilities operated from Warrensburg and the position may also require DEC chainsaw certification to assist with hazardous tree removal. Dock install and removal at various boat launches and Lake George Islands campgrounds.
Additional Comments
Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Must be able to negotiate difficult terrain. Must be able to work in remote areas. Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions. Overtime may be required. Weekends and holidays may be required. Must be available for emergency response. Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds. Must have certification to operate motorized boats or personal watercrafts at time of appointment.
This is a hourly appointment currently funded through 3/31/2025, with a likelihood of continuing beyond that date. Program needs and funding will determine actual termination date.
