One year of permanent service as a Psychologist 2 or in a title deemed appropriate for transfer via Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.
Promotion:
Candidates must have one year of permanent service as a Psychologist 1 or as a Psychologist 1 (Spanish Language).
Provisional Appointment:
In the event that there is not a valid eligible list, candidates who meet the following promotion or open-competitive qualifications may be qualified for an appointment:
Candidates must have a Master of Psychology degree from a regionally accredited
college or university psychology degree program which prepares graduates for clinical positions in the
field of psychology in a clinical, forensic, community mental health, or school setting. Qualifying degree
programs must have included coursework in psychological and behavioral assessment, and treatment
modalities for psychological and behavioral disorders. You must also have three years of supervised post master's degree experience in a clinical, forensic, community mental health, or school setting, where your primary duties were providing psychological services as described below.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
Under the supervision of the Chief Psychologist or designee (Clinical Supervisor) and/or Treatment Team Leader:
- Provides psychology services for young adults who will be living in a Comprehensive Adult Transitional Home (CATH). It is anticipated that many of the young adults will be transitioning from residential schools and will have intensive behavioral/psychiatric needs. The program is intended to provide a temporary home to assist with the transition and to allow for more time to assess and identify an appropriate home within 18 months.
- Spends time at the CATH residence and day programs to model, teach, and support staff who are implementing the plans, interfacing with all three shifts.
- Provides psychology services for adults who will be living in Individual Residential Alternatives (IRA) including coordinating services between the residence and day program/vocational services.
- Develops Functional Behavioral Assessments and treatment plans including Higher Risk Behavior Support Plans, Behavior Support Plans, and Monitoring Plans.
- Trains staff on the implementation of treatment plans and various topics related to developmental and psychiatric diagnoses and building relationships.
- Makes frequent site visits including residence and day program.
- Ensures delivery of service complies with regulations, agency policies, and ethical standards of clinical practice.
- Conducts assessments and provides training to staff regarding risk mitigation and safeguards for protection of individual rights and community safety.
- Utilizes the Electronic Health Record to document assessments, plans, clinical notes, consent processes, and related behavioral/psychological activities and services.
- Interacts with families to provide explanations of psychology services and shares behavioral intervention methods.
- Collects and utilizes data to monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of treatment strategies and progress.
- Participates in team meetings on regular basis and updates team as needed.
- Prepares information and attends psychiatry appointments, including any follow up required.
- Provides individual and group counseling/educational services.
- Provides various assessments including but not limited to cognition, adaptive behavior, academic, risk/forensic/legal, capacity, and others as needed.
- Attends and participates at monthly psychology department meetings and clinical supervision.
- Attends OPWDD New Employment Orientation, if needed.
- Attends Positive Relationships Offer More to Everyone (PROMOTE) including restrictive physical interventions and maintains training requirements.

- Doctoral degree in a clinical field of psychology may be substituted for both the education and experience
- Clinical psychology practicum, externship, or fieldwork assignment, that was completed as part of a
experience.
- A practicum, externship, or clinical fieldwork assignment is defined as a direct clinical training experience in providing psychological services in an appropriate inpatient or outpatient community mental health, developmental disabilities services, forensic or community setting; which is a component of a qualifying Master of Psychology degree program and would also be listed on the official transcript.
- Certificate of advanced study in a clinical field of psychology or school psychology may be substituted for
- Experience in a clinical, community mental health, addiction treatment facility, or forensic setting is considered to be any direct care experience with individuals, families, or groups in a hospital, psychiatric hospital, psychiatric clinic, community mental health clinic, correctional facility, intermediate care facility, institutional or school setting, or community based residential and/or day program under the supervision of a doctoral level psychologist, licensed psychologist, licensed physician, or licensed psychiatrist, psychiatric nurse practitioner, or licensed clinical social worker.

- This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). HELPS Program titles may be filled via a non-competitive appointment. This means that you do not need to take an exam to qualify, but you do need to meet the minimum qualifications of the title.
- At a future date (within one year of permanent appointment), employees hired under NY HELPS are expected to have their permanent non-competitive employment status converted to permanent competitive status. You will not have to take an exam to gain permanent competitive status.
