Duties Description
Reporting to the Associate Commissioner for Oversight and Compliance, the Director of Child Health’s duties include, but are not limited to, the following :
- Provide input for the development, implementation, and revision of clinical health policies and procedures for childcare prog rams.
- Educate and counsel individuals, child care providers and families regarding illnesses, medications, medical tests, and treatment goals and procedures.
- Serve as the technical assistance lead for the Division of Child Care Services (DCCS) licensing and enrollment staff on child care programmatic health related matters.
- Provide guidance and implementation assistance on child care regulatory provisions in the areas of health and infection control, child development, nutrition, and safety.
- Represent the Division of Child Care Services in multidisciplinary teams focused on child health, mental health, social emotional health and wellness.
- Coordinate with stakeholders such as NYS DOH, NYCDOHMH, NYSED and other child health partners.
- Lead child care staff wellness initiatives for the DCCS.
- Oversee the implementation of the allergy and anaphylaxis initiative in child care settings.
- Coordinate with the NYS DOH on child vaccination campaigns.
- Coordinate and oversee the Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies health care consultants statewide and other health care consultants.
- Develop policy recommendations and provide overall direction related to all child health and child care employee health and wellness matters, including the development of regulatory language and statutory proposals.
- Assess proposed policies, regulations and statutes for health care related implications to child care programs and provide analysis to Division leadership.
- Facilitate meetings, conference calls and day-to-day communication with public and private stakeholders and OCFS staff to move Division efforts forward.
- Prepare, review, and finalize documents for distribution by the DCCS to the Commissioner’s Office, other OCFS staff and outside partners.
- Guide the formulation of training and professional development to DCCS staff and external partners.
- Analyze written communications submitted by outside partners and prepare recommendations and / or a response by the Division, as appropriate.
- Maintain liaison role with other planning, policy, and support units relative to program implementation, program design, etc.
- Provide support to OCFS work related to safe sleep and preventing child fatalities.
Additional duties will be discussed in detail during the interview. Spanish speaking preferred.
Minimum Qualifications
One year of permanent competitive or 55b / c service in this title or in a title eligible for 70.1 transfer.
Current Licensure as a Family Health Nurse Practitioner in New York State.
Must maintain a valid New York State license and registration.
This position may be designated 55 b / c and is subject to verification of applicant eligibility.

A starting salary rate increase for staff hired into the Nurse Practitioner (Family Health) titles is in effect. The starting salary for Nurse Practitioner (Family Health) titles is now $111,897.00.
Staff in these titles have also been approved to receive geographic pay of [[$25,000]] for [[Cayuga County]].
