Job Overview:
As a Hearing Officer with OTDA, you will play a critical role in ensuring that social services benefit program determinations are fair and impartial. Your expertise in law and regulatory compliance will be essential in making informed decisions, and your ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders will be crucial in building trust and confidence.
Responsibilities:
• Conduct thorough reviews of fair hearing requests, identifying key issues and applying relevant regulations and laws
• Preside over administrative hearings to review appeals and determine eligibility for social services benefits
• Draft timely and accurate recommended decisions, taking into account all relevant evidence and testimony
• Maintain a complete and organized record of all proceedings, including transcripts and exhibits
Qualifications:
• Admission to the New York State Bar and 24 months of subsequent satisfactory legal experience in the trial of issues in courts of record or in the conduct or trial of adversary proceedings, quasi-judicial in nature, before a governmental department or agency
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines
• Experience with social service benefit programs and familiarity with relevant laws and regulations
