NYSERDA seeks an Assistant Financial Analyst to join its Finance team, working at the intersection of accounting, business analysis and financial analysis to improve business decision making to help advance a clean energy economy. This position interacts on a regular basis with NYSERDA’s management team, program staff, and other internal and external stakeholders in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. The Assistant Financial Analyst will provide a key linkage between Finance and various program teams, translating program activities into meaningful financial results and projections to provide relevant business intelligence.
Primary Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of NYSERDA’s annual spending plan and budget for presentation and approval to the Board.
- Periodically evaluate the budget process and make recommendations for areas that can be streamlined and improved.
- Monitor actual spending vs budget, provide reports to management on variances and partner with program owners to ensure they have relevant and timely insights regarding commitments and available funding.
- Provide accurate estimates for revenues and expenditures and timely reporting thereof.
- Work with Program and Performance Management teams to ensure that program outcomes align with funds spent, annually and ongoing.
- Ensure alignment with General & Administrative targets and other applicable caps through proactive forecasting and cross-team coordination. Assist in identifying indirect cost rates for grant-funded efforts.
- Cultivate an understanding of the dynamic tools and business transactions needed to advance efficiency and clean energy and the accounting, financial reporting and cashflow management implications thereof.
- Apply that knowledge to develop and improve financial analysis and projections. This includes program/ product level micro-assessments to aid program teams in identifying optimal investment paths, as well as portfolio-wide projections to optimize cashflow management.
- Setup and maintain programmatic budgets in NYSERDA’s enterprise information system (PeopleSoft ERP)
- Maintain and improve efficiency and effectiveness, streamlining or enhancing processes while ensuring appropriate internal controls.
- Contribute to a culture of excellence grounded in people development, learning, problem solving, and teamwork.
- Establish positive working relationships across NYSERDA and its NY Green Bank and with key regulators and stakeholders including the Department of Public Service, NYS Division of Budget, external auditors, and investment advisors.
- Ability to demonstrate respect, equity and inclusive behavior and practices of a diverse workforce and community.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
- Associate degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance
- 6 years of relevant experience in accounting or finance
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Proficiency in other Microsoft Office applications
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Solid analytical skills; ability to effectively evaluate information and data to make decisions
- Strong work ethic and resolute integrity
- Attention to detail
- Skill in managing multiple diverse activities simultaneously
- Ability to perform with accuracy and efficiency in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated successful collaboration across different teams and stakeholders
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, Finance, or related field.
