Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our new research laboratory at NYU School of Medicine as a Research Technician.

Our team will be focused on physiological and environmental factors that regulate stem cells in the context of early development, adult stage regeneration, and disease.

In the role of research technician, the successful candidate will support a range of projects across the lab,and play a fundamental role in establishing in vitro and in vivo models. There may also be opportunity to pursue an independent scientific project, depending on the successful candidate’s interest and qualifications.

Job Responsibilities:

• Lab Duties - advanced lab duties, under general supervision as well as more advanced duties under direct supervision. Assists senior and supervisory technicians in all advanced procedures. In addition to those duties expected of an Associate Research Technician, Research Technicians may be expected to coordinate the repair and preventive maintenance of lab equipment. Additionally, is expected to assist in experiments using established protocols and procedures, and records results of experiments.
• Assist in Developing Procedures - Assists in implementing new procedures and protocols to support experiments. Participates actively in developing, recommending and implementing new approved procedures, or modifications to existing protocols and procedures. Maintains and updates technical knowledge.
• Communication/Relationship with Others - Cooperates, communicates and relates well to all levels of Medical Center. Listens carefully to others in order to respond appropriately, answer questions or obtain needed information. Communicates ideas, problems, suggestions, and messages in a timely and effective manner. Maintains the confidentiality of all research information.
• Judgment/Decision-Making - Is able to recognize problems as they occur; and through the application of appropriate policy/ procedure, determine and/or recommends the appropriate solution. Seeks guidance as necessary for the performance of duties asks appropriate questions when in doubt and utilizes reference sources/materials to endure accuracy. Advises appropriate personnel of situations/problems requiring intervention or follow-up attention.
• Participates and performs other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's of Science Degree in Life Sciences or a related field with one year of experience.
• Advanced beyond basic lab training will be accepted in lieu of experience as assessed by the hiring Principal Investigator.
• Effective oral and written communication skills required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience and training in rodent handling and colony maintenance.
• Master’s or other postgraduate degree in biology, chemistry, or related fields
• Advanced computer processing skills, such as prior experience with graphing software, Adobe Suite, and other software relevant to biological research.
• Prior research experience in a laboratory setting, basic laboratory skills.
• Highly organized; proficient at note/record keeping and organization.
• Great team player with the ability to work alone and with others.
• Excellent communication skills.
• High level of professionalism.
• Ability to adapt as the lab grows and changes, and responsibilities evolve.
• Basic computer processing knowledge including file management and use of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint or equivalent software).

NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $50,000.00 - $58,618.74 Annually. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
