Summary of Job Description : Residential Property Tax Consultants represent clients at hearings before the local Board of Assessment Review (BAR) and other local authorities.
Job Responsibilities
Meet with clients as necessary to discuss property assessments and gather relevant documents and information
Review and analyze client data, appraisal district evidence, market data and other sources of information and prepare property specific evidence on market value and U&E
Conduct site visits throughout the state to personally inspect high value properties if / when necessary
Use Company’s proprietary systems to generate supporting evidence as necessary
Meet with various county appraisal district representatives to negotiate value reductions at informal hearings
Attend informal and formal hearings and present compelling evidence to the county Appraisal Review Boards
Communicate with assigned Appraisal District personnel regarding hearing process / methodology
Communicate with clients and customer service staff on all hearing matter
Negotiate lowering the property’s assessed value
Build strong client relationships and maintain a good rapport with appraisal district representatives
Participate in business development
Other duties as assigned
Requirements :
2 year(s) of experience as a property tax consultant attending informal and formal protest hearings in Long Island, NY (specifically the counties listed within job description)
Basic knowledge of real estate valuation and the New York Property Tax Code
Prefer candidates with a background in real estate appraisal, financial services or sales
Dynamic and effective negotiation skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Ability to understand and analyze financial reports
Ability to work in a vigorous and fast paced environment
Detail oriented and ability to multitask
Strong work ethic demonstrated through punctual, polite, and courteous job performance
Must be available to work extensive hours during the tax protest season (including weekends, evenings and holidays)
Ability to travel throughout the state to conduct site visits and attend protest hearings
Must have dependable and reliable transportation
Strong computer skills (Excel, Word, Internet, various software applications)
Must be flexible and willing to change daily assignments on short notice as business dictates
Maintain professional appearance, attitude, and manners in dealing with clients and appraisal district personnel
