Overview:
This position requires a dedicated individual to support kitchen operations by performing a variety of tasks, including dishwashing, cleaning, and assisting with food preparation. The primary focus is to maintain a clean and sanitary kitchen environment while ensuring that food preparation tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
Responsibilities and Associated Duties:
Dishwashing:
- Wash, stack, sort, and store dishes, glassware, utensils, and cookware.
- Operate commercial dishwashers, ensuring proper cleaning and sanitation.
- Maintain a clean and organized dish area.
- Clean and sanitize kitchen surfaces and equipment.
Food Preparation:
- Assist in preparing food by washing, chopping, peeling, and preparing ingredients.
- Follow recipes and instructions accurately.
- Prepare salads and other basic dishes.
- Ensure proper storage of food items and tools.
- Organize workstations to ensure easy access to tools and ingredients.
Kitchen Maintenance:
- Clean and sanitize kitchen work areas, equipment, and utensils.
- Empty trash and garbage bins.
- Mop floors and sweep the kitchen.
- Restock food items throughout the shift.
Other Duties:
- Assist with closing duties, including sanitation of cooking and food preparation stations.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Chef, Sous Chef, or Kitchen Manager.
- Adhere to all kitchen food safety and sanitation standards.
Knowledge, Experience, and Skill Requirements:
- A high School diploma is required.
- Current ServSafe Food Handling Certificate required at hire or within 45 days of hire.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
- Basic knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices.
- Good communication skills.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, and some holidays.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Experience in restaurants, hotels, or catering, or its equivalent, is required.
- Demonstrated ability to take orders and follow through as well as direct and work well with others in a team-driven, fast-paced environment.
- Must be energetic, enthusiastic, creative, and highly motivated to assist in food preparation and presentation.
