Position Overview:
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Construction Accounting Manager to oversee the financial health and accounting processes of our construction operations. This role is responsible for managing the day-to-day accounting functions, ensuring accurate job costing, financial reporting, and compliance with industry regulations. The ideal candidate will have a solid background in both accounting and construction, with a deep understanding of project-based accounting practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all aspects of construction accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, general ledger, and job costing.
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes; ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Implement budget analysis
- Monitor and report on job cost performance, budget variances, and profitability by project.
- Collaborate with project managers to track project budgets, change orders, billing, and collections.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and company policies.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, WIP (Work-In-Progress) schedules, and cash flow reports.
- Assist with financial audits, bonding requirements, and lender reporting.
- Liaise with external accountants, auditors, and other financial professionals as needed.
- Maintain and improve accounting systems, software, and reporting tools (e.g., Computerease).
- Oversee subcontractor compliance including lien waivers, insurance certificates, and 1099 processing.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, (CPA preferred).
- 3 years of accounting experience
- Proven experience in construction job costing and project accounting.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and construction financial practices.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel and financial reporting tools.
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and leadership skills. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with AIA billing and contract administration.
- Familiarity with prevailing wage and certified payroll reporting.
- Multi-project and multi-entity accounting experience.
