Company Overview: Join our team at OK Tire Store & Service, an employee-owned company, as we continue to provide exceptional tire and automotive services. We are seeking a skilled and motivated Automotive Technician to contribute to the growth and success of our service department in Fargo, ND.
Position Overview: The Automotive Technician will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining a variety of vehicle systems, with a strong focus on drivability, suspension, and electrical issues. This position requires proficiency in the use of various tools and diagnostic equipment, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team to provide high-quality service.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Set vehicles on hoists (2 and 4 post) to identify worn/failed parts and drivability issues.
- Perform differential, transmission, and transfer case services using correct fluids and additives.
- Utilize Mitchell Pro Demand for service information and diagnostics.
- Complete vehicle courtesy inspections and oil changes/grease jobs.
- Inspect brakes for worn pads/rotors and diagnose/repair braking systems.
- Inspect shocks/struts for leaks or damage and perform repairs.
- Perform basic electrical troubleshooting (lighting, trailer harness, and circuits).
- Test and diagnose batteries and alternators.
- Inspect and repair belts, tensioners, and idlers.
- Become proficient in servicing trailer brakes, hubs, and bearings.
- Inspect and replace CV axles, control arms, ball joints, tie rods, and end links.
- Perform engine diagnostics and repairs, including computer scans, tune-ups, spark plugs, wires, and sensors.
- Diagnose and repair cooling systems, including thermostats, water pumps, etc.
- Perform brake system maintenance including flush, bleed, diagnosis, and parts replacement.
- Diagnose charging and starting system issues.
- Identify and inspect brake rotors and serviceability.
- Turn brake rotors on a brake lathe.
- Identify and specify lift/leveling kits for proper application and tire fitment.
- Install lift/leveling kits under supervision.
- Identify parts, build parts lists, and collaborate with Service Writers for accurate quotes.
- Train on alignment rack processes.
- Operate hydraulic presses, ball joint presses, spring compressors, and other shop tools.
- Help maintain the shop, load junk trailers, and organize/put away stock.
- Work efficiently to meet service time goals and ensure accurate ticket information (VIN, mileage, time, tech, cause of fault, warning lights).
- Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and reporting safety incidents or near misses.
Minimum Job Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry 50 lbs frequently, and 100 lbs occasionally.
- Frequent kneeling, bending, climbing, standing, and crouching.
- Exposure to various irritants and automotive fluids, dust, etc., in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, and work orders.
- Must possess all necessary tools.
- Legally eligible to drive a vehicle provided by the company, with an insurable driving record.
