Job Summary:
CareFirst FEPOC is seeking a Senior Ab Initio Developer / Data Engineer to join its data engineering team. This role focuses on building and optimizing data pipelines and integrations using Ab Initio, Hadoop, and other modern data technologies. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in ETL development, data warehousing, and a strong understanding of data modeling, with a background in healthcare data being a significant plus.
This position will play a key role in helping transform the organization’s data infrastructure to enable deeper analytics, data-driven insights, and platform modernization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Business Analysts and Product teams to gather and interpret data requirements.
- Design and develop Ab Initio data graphs and data pipelines to extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from diverse sources (databases, flat files, message queues).
- Create consumable data layers for application and business intelligence consumption.
- Perform unit testing, production troubleshooting, and performance tuning of ETL jobs.
- Provide ongoing support and enhancement for existing data pipelines and solutions.
- Document technical designs, operational runbooks, and data flow processes.
- Follow engineering best practices, including version control, reusable code components, and automation.
- Support and mentor junior developers as required.
Required Qualifications & Experience:
- 10 years of overall IT experience with a strong focus in Data Integration and Data Warehousing
- 5 years of hands-on ETL development experience using Ab Initio
- 1–2 years of experience on Hadoop platform (preferably Cloudera)
- Working knowledge of HDFS, Hive, Impala, and other related Hadoop ecosystem tools
- Experience with Ab Initio Change Data Capture (CDC) is a strong advantage
- Proficiency in SQL and the ability to write efficient and optimized queries
- Experience with OLTP and OLAP data models and data warehouse architecture
- Strong Unix/Linux shell scripting skills
- Knowledge of Agile software development practices
- Familiarity with AWS services and cloud-native data solutions is a plus
- Experience with Java is a plus
