Position: Quality Engineer

Role Overview:
The Quality Engineer is responsible for the quality and inspection of incoming and outgoing materials, including the development, implementation, and maintenance of the quality systems necessary to ensure product integrity and profitability. The company manufactures beryllium and copper alloys for aerospace and other critical applications, often governed by customer or agency specifications. Every Quality Engineer contributes to fulfilling quality system principles to meet customer requirements and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Quality Management System (QMS):
- Maintain and improve the QMS, ensuring certifications and accreditations such as AS9100, ISO 17025, and Nadcap MTL & HT are up to date.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards and customer requirements.
- Mechanical Test Laboratories:
- Oversee the operation of mechanical test laboratories.
- Manage calibration, certification, and inspection activities.
- Supervise and schedule personnel in laboratory and inspection areas.
- Coordinate equipment maintenance and calibration, ensuring the laboratories operate at optimal performance.
- Quality System Development and Maintenance:
- Develop and implement quality systems including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Statistical Process Control (SPC) charts, and product specifications.
- Continuously improve processes to meet the evolving needs of production and customer standards.
- Material Testing and Certification:
- Ensure certification, documentation, and interpretation of material test results, such as:
- Chemistry
- Tensile
- Hardness
- Metallographic
- Physical analysis
- Conduct testing to meet industry standards and regulations.
- Safety and Environmental Compliance:
- Operate a safe laboratory environment in line with company safety policies and procedures.
- Follow all health and safety guidelines, particularly concerning the handling of materials like beryllium powder, which require stringent safety protocols.
- Customer and Agency Specifications:
- Ensure all products comply with customer or agency specifications.
- Coordinate with internal and external laboratory and inspection activities to meet these specifications.
Education, Experience, and Skills:
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in a science or technical field such as Engineering, Metallurgy, Chemistry, or Materials Science.
- Quality Management experience.
Experience:
- Minimum 4 years of experience in a metals or materials production/laboratory environment, particularly with aerospace/defense manufacturing.
- Knowledge and hands-on experience with Statistical Process Control (SPC) methods.
Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint).
- Statistical software knowledge is a plus (e.g., Minitab, JMP, etc.).
- Quality System Auditing experience (auditing manufacturing plants for compliance).
- Green Belt/Black Belt certification is preferred.
Certifications (optional but preferred):
- Membership in quality organizations (e.g., ASQ, ISO).
- Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
